Topic: Thunderbolt to FW adapter for Mac

Hello

Apple's new thunderbolt to FW800 adapter just came out. The only problem is that you can only draw 7W of power through it, versus 45 W on a normal FW cable. My question: is 7W enough for my FireFace400 ?

Thank You

Re: Thunderbolt to FW adapter for Mac

Subsidiary questions:

Can the recent FF UCX be connected to USB and then chained to a FF400 through firewire so that the computer sees both as an aggregate device ?
In that combination, will they both get enough power ?

Are the mic preamps on the FF UCX significantly better than those on the FF400 ? are they the same as those on the Babyface ?

Thanks !

Re: Thunderbolt to FW adapter for Mac

Check your FF400 manual page 82: it won't because the typical power consumption is 13 Watts.

No, you can't connect like you said if you mean [Computer]>USB>[FFUCX]>FW>[FF400].

You would have to connect both via FW (chaining via the FF400): [Computer]>FW>[FF400]>FW>[FFUCX]
or just connect the UCX via USB and the 400 via FW.
The Mac will be able to aggregate both in both cases.

Thank you... I suppose that I can start looking for a bulletproof box where I could put a FF400, a QuadMic, & a strong battery... any cues welcome !
