Give the Babyface more power, maybe it doesn't start correctly.

Re: Can't install TotalMix on MBP Retina

Thank you very much Mr Carstens... I just connected BabyFace to both USB ports, TotalMix opens, but now Logic (9.1.7) says 'MIDI time out', and Audio MIDI Setup hangs when opening the MIDI window... I just migrated from a MBP 2009 where everything, included FF400, MultiFaceI and BabyFace, acted as it should. Don't know where to go from there.

With my old MBP 17" I could use a buspowered FF400 on the FW port, a MultifaceI on an expresscard, and record 24 tracks 48/24 on a LaCie Little Disk also bus-powered by the FW port. I was already quite displeased to hear that Apple's Thunderbolt>FW adapter wouldn't enable using the FF400 with bus power on the Retina (btw do you confirm this?)... now if on top of that I must monopolize _both_ usb ports just for using a BabyFace which needed only one on my former MBP, this is getting really outrageous... are there any more hidden treasures on that wonderful professional machine ? ..

Sorry for the rant, I'm leaving in 4 days for a place where AC goes off all the time and bus power is a necessity, so I'm getting  extremely nervous.

Thanks for any hint

Re: Can't install TotalMix on MBP Retina

After a few minutes I got this message from Audio MIDI Setup:
"Audio MIDI Setup couldn't open the MIDI Server so you can't view or edit your MIDI configurations. If you recently installed a new MIDI driver, try uninstalling it and the open AMS again. If AMS works correctly after that, contact the driver's manufacturer for further support"

Re: Can't install TotalMix on MBP Retina

Totalmix started fine when BabyFace used both USB ports, but that was with v.1.68. I just reinstalled 1.75 and again, TotalMix hangs... ?

Re: Can't install TotalMix on MBP Retina

I reinstalled 1.68, Totalmix indeed work but takes 5 minutes to launch. Which makes me wonder if I waited long enough with 1.75... reinstalling it now...

Re: Can't install TotalMix on MBP Retina

I see now that Totalmix actually doesn't freeze but takes 5' to launch. This is consistant, using one or two USB cables, 1.68 or 1.75. This would eliminate underpowering as a cause of totalmix acting up, I hope. As for Audio MIDI Setup, in any case it hangs when opening the MIDI window and also about 5' later says it couldn't open the MIDI Server.  Logic times out, telling me to remove older drivers of all connected MIDI devices. I have no idea how to do that. Thank you so much for any help.

Maybe you need to clean all traces of the old drivers, 'migration' seems to be problematic.

Re: Can't install TotalMix on MBP Retina

Thank you very much ! I did the cleanup and everything works as it should. Babyface now even seems to be happy with a single USB cable.
Waiting for my TB>FW adapter to arrive tomorrow, I'll keep you informed about bus powering the FF400. Thanks again.
