Topic: UCX Problems

Just opened the box and connected it with the firewire cable, installed from the disc supplied and all seemed to work fine except for a few levels on total mix which may be a ground problem from listening to the it on the phones.

I then updated the drivers and firmware and of course had to use USB and the power supply, and all seemed well. I removed the USB and power supply again after shutting down and rebooted. The unit lit up as before but the host light stayed red and of course it wasnt available on the PC.

Tried rebooting, checking the firewire cable hadn't worked loose, but no joy. I then plugged in the USB cable and it worked again, powered I imagine from the firewire as the power supply was not connected.

I would like to use this from firewire, any ideas what has happened? And can I get it back to the state it was before the firmware update if thats the problem? I'm on Windows 7.

Thanks

Re: UCX Problems

Did you use USB and FW cable at the same time? Please don't do that. Did you remove all cables for the unit to activate the firmware?

Did you also update to the latest FireWire driver?

Re: UCX Problems

Yes I did. I read that you can have them both connected so I connected the USB cable based on this FAQ assuming the USB would let me update the firmware (which appeared to be successfull for both) and after disconnecting the USB, the firewire driver. I also noticed that in Protools using the USB I can only get 2 channels, but as I said its early days so it's maybe just the bandwidth on my USB.

FAQ Can I use the UCX on a USB and FireWire port at the same time?

No. You can connect both and install both drivers, but the UCX will use only one (USB has priority).

Re: UCX Problems

The FAQ may be misleading. USB has no prioritiy (what loads first will work), and the first sentence is not meant like 'You can connect both to install both drivers'.

Re: UCX Problems

So how do I get it to use FW. I disabled the USB driver, rebooted, and now I am not even getting the red host light, just PH on the display. I reinstalled the FW but nothing's happening.

Re: UCX Problems

You don't need to disable the USB driver, just pull the USB cable. With a fresh reboot of computer and UCX and the UCX connected via FireWire then it should be no problem to install the latest FireWire drivers and use the unit with it.

Re: UCX Problems

Ok I've tried everything I can think of, new firewire cable, checked the firewire on the PC by connecting a Profire 610. Tried booting firewire only, and then with the power supply and only getting red host light and PH, nothing reported in device manager. Firewire cable fits snug in the socket and it's supplying power. Tried again with a clean install of Win 7, the same. Reflashed the unit even though it reported ok and still no joy. Unless there is something else anyone can suggest it's going back. Not the kind of hassle you expect from a soundcard costing a grand.

Another thing when using it under USB, and when I say using it I've not had a chance to record anything, the mixer seemed to have loaded at the wrong resolution so only the top two thirds and left two thirds of the mixer was in view, and clicking on the screen was for example toggling a mute switch in a different part of the display. So a separate issue hopefully.

Re: UCX Problems

That issue is fixed already. Either load 0.984_1 from this forum, or disable D2D in the TotalMix Preferences.
