Topic: Kernel Panic - the Saga continues....

Hey people,

When I first bought the RME Babyface, I installed the latest drivers and I got kernel panic after kernel panic on my Macbook.

I am using OSX 10.6.8 and luckily I had backed up.

Since than I have painstakingly clean installed a vanilla 10.6, freed up hard drive space, bought new RAM and worked my way through every OSX update (10.6.1, 10.6.2. etc) until I had a stable, useable system. I do not have any of iLife or design programmes installed as I am using the Macbook for music purposes only.

Since updating to the most recent drivers( version 0.984) for the Babyface I am getting kernel panics again at application launch?

Can anyone offer an explanation as to why this might be happening again? Is it a latest driver issue?

I was very reluctant to update to the new drivers because of the immense effort I have put in to get this interface working, which I may add has been incredibly stable since I troubleshooted.

When I update to the recent drivers, do I also need to use the flash update tool to check for new versions? because I haven't done this?

Re: Kernel Panic - the Saga continues....

Latest driver version for Babyface is v 1.75, are you talking about the TMFX version?

If you are running driver v 1.75, you need to have firmware v 185 flashed to the unit. Check the Fireface USB settings app, current versions in use are listed at the top.

Re: Kernel Panic - the Saga continues....

Jeff, I'm running these firmware and driver versions.....

I'm not sure what I can do now, would you suggest going back to the earlier version i.e. will I reinstall my Hard drive to
the earlier driver version from Time Capsule?

Or would you please know what other solutions I may have?

Re: Kernel Panic - the Saga continues....

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the quick reply the other day but I have yet to find a solution to my problem.
I am a consumer, not a technician so I am wholey reliant on customer support for problems that crop up.
I realise that it has been the weekend and support might not be available and I am just letting you know that my
difficulties are still here.

Can you tell me if I should restore my system back to the driver version previous to the most recent update?

If I do this, does it or will it cause problems with the Babyface?

In addition to the kernel panics, the TMFX fader gains are moving along with the fx send when I am applying fx to
the mics?

I have reset TMFX but the problem persists.

Thank you in advance.

Brian
