Topic: aes

hi,

today i did connect my consumer cd player into the ufx, via digital optical. in adat 2 optical in. then in usb setting : aes input source = adat2.

the question is :

should i set the clock source to internal or aes or adat2.

you may say adat2, and then, right, the usb setting rate switch to the proper cd sr, 44,1.

but then if i play a protools 48, PT says : bad rate etc

ok

then i switch back the clock source to internal.

and then it's ok to both CD and PT.

BUT WHAT HAPPEN TO THE 44,1 CD RATE ?

it does not feel like it's pitched up. but is this wrong to hear 44,1 with a 48 clock rate ?

Re: aes

well, no, it doesn't work, it became obvious.
in 48, the cd sound get aliased (what a bad idea to test with some fuzzy rock music ahah).

so : how to deal with this 2 sr, 441 cd and 48 wich is the sr of all my daw based project ?

Re: aes

Everything has to run at one sample rate, or else you need to convert the digital out of the CD player to 48k before the Fireface input. This would require a hardware sample rate converter, such as the RME ADI-192 DD.

Re: aes

And the UFX as to be slaved to the CD player's Sample Clock. If it's to use the CD content in Pro Tools, the best is to import audio from a CD-Rom drive.

Re: aes

ok, thanks guys.
