Topic: Fireface UC / Total mix software freezing in win 7 64bit

I have a fireface UC and it worked fine on windows 7 32 bit. Now I have changed to windows 7 64bit and ever since the total mix software randomly freezes up, sometimes for seconds, sometimes for minutes or until I restart. I have re-installed the drivers several times and updated the firmware and cleaned my system with utilities and disabled all other drivers etc...  and just put up with it thinking that I needed to do a windows re-install again.

So, I have a fresh install of windows 7 64 bit and the total mix is still freezing on me.



Additional info:
1. I have also had a problem with my midi keyboard not sending midi (through the fireface) while audio is playing (live inputting of midi notes) but as soon as the audio stops the midi keyboard works again.
2. Sometimes my volume control on the fireface will control the PAN at the same time as the vol?! This has been doing this for a long time and double clicking the volume control randomly can stop it but I would like to know why this happens.

p.s I am running it in 96k since changing to 64bit so this might have something to do with it?

Did you set the system Power Scheme to "High Performance"? This is necessary in many cases.

Addl info:
1 - Sorry, no idea.
2 - It's not controlling "pan", you simply do not have the pair linked in stereo, so only one channel of the pair is being controlled.

double check your install procedures, there is an step that people often miss out on that removes the old driver files.

Cant seeing the change to 96bit 64bit would be a problem unless your pc specs weren't up to it, what CPU speed and RAM do you have?

@Jeff, My system is set to high performance and optimised for audio.

It IS controlling PAN as I can watch the pan knob in total mix swing from left to right as I lower/raise the volume with the rotary controller on the fireface! I have just had it do it 5 minutes ago. It does that on the hardware outputs (headphones just now).

@stoolzo, I have checked that box before and this is on a fresh windows install.

Does it sound like there might be a problem with the fireface? It's not very old and used to work fine. I also had been running classic total mix but I had the same problems.

2. Jeff is right. If you have a channel set to mono on the device but stereo in TotalMix FX then the only way not to violate the laws of physics is to also move the pan while turning the encoder. Think about it...

So as it is obviously a fault with me you won't mind helping me understand it. For a start, I'm not sure how to set a channel to mono on the device so please could you explain that. How do I "move the pan while turning the encoder"? All I do is turn the encoder (I have only 1 on the front of my fireface uc) to change the volume and then the pan in Total mix moves while the volume fader is also moving.

(my channels in totalmix are in stereo, the stereo button is orange and there is only one fader with a pan control at the top.

Can anyone please tell me how to switch the channel to mono/stereo on the fire face. I need to try this as its frozen again.

Explained in the manual: push the knob in for more than 1 second, the screen shows "On" when stereo link is activated.

Have you tried switching back to 44.1 and reinstalling, at this point you may have to follow a logical process of elimination to get to the bottom of the problem.

Hi, Thanks for the input! I have changed back to 44.1. So far it hasn't frozen but its early days.

Will look into the midi thing.

if it continues to be ok on 44.1 it would suggest to me that your're pc isnt powerful enough, if it is then there must be a fault somewhere, possibly with the card if it still does this on a clean install.

Also check it is plugged into a USB 2 port rather than a legacy 1.0
