Topic: FF400/TotalMix - New User Qusetions

I just purchased a lightly-used Win7 x64 i7 tower DAW and Fireface 400 from a forum friend. It arrived the other day and I was able to just do a quick checkout. I'm an IT pro by trade and have been playing around with DAWs for many years but I am pretty lost with the FF400 (I have been using M-Audio Delta 1010 and Mobile Pre interfaces).

I was able to get some mp3s to play through the FF so the driver seems to be  installed and working. I haven't installed my recording s/w yet (Sonar 8.5P) on this new platform and the previous owner deleted his s/w so the DAW is currently in a pretty bare-bones state. I have hard and soft copies of the FF manual and have flipped though it quickly as time has allowed and I see there's a lot to learn. I haven't been quickly able to find how to launch the TotalMix UI so I can see faders, levels, and routing controls. The two system tray icons bring up a general control app (as on pg 16) and some sort of matrix routing app. My immediate goal is to make sure the RME driver and support apps are completely installed and working. I didn't get a CD so I'll have to download whatever I may need.

Would someone help out an RME noob and tell me how to launch the fader interface?

The matrix view can be switched to the mixer view, either right click on the icon in the tray, or use hotkey "t".

This video should help ease the leaning curve for TotalMix: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=splW9OtTBYw

Perfect! Thanks, Jeff. I really appreciate the quick response and not getting an RTFM response.

well you did say you were reading the manual as well.... :-)

If you put some time into learning totalmix it will pay off in spades for you. It is really powerful and versatile.

Welcome to the RME clan!!
