Topic: Fireface UFX : Using AES/EBU Ext FX in TotalMix Help needed

Hello
I have recently add a TC FireworX multiFX processor into my "Live" setup (see below)

I have connected the FireworX on the AES/EBU In & out and I have routed the signals I want to go through the FireworX on the AES/EBU Hard In (I get a signal as I see the Metrers of the related AES in).
My question is How can I get the signal processed out of AES/EBU Hard Out as I don't see any signal going out of the AES/EBU in the UFX.
I have tested the FireworX and the output signal is fine set at 0dB by default.
I should have missed something in the settings of the UFX or what ?
Thanks for your help
Fred

Not sure I understand the problem fully, but this mixer tutorial might help:

Re: Fireface UFX : Using AES/EBU Ext FX in TotalMix Help needed

Thanks but I have already being watching these tutorials and I did not find any information regarding the use of an external FX processor through AES/EBU (e.g.)
The idea is to create in TotalMix a FX track (using AES/EBU connections with the TC FireworX)
It would be interesting to have an Aux Send & Receive that could be assigned to the AES/EBU interface. in order to use the TC FireworX as an external FX for TotalMix.
Thanks for your help

It would be interesting to have an Aux Send & Receive that could be assigned to the AES/EBU interface.

In TotalMix every output bus works like an Aux send on classical mixer. Create the mix for the AES out by using the faders of the input and playback channels. They affect only the AES out, the mixes for all other outputs stay unchanged.
The AES input works as the FX receive.

Re: Fireface UFX : Using AES/EBU Ext FX in TotalMix Help needed

This is what I have been doing but I cannot get the FX out signal from AES OUtput
Sending the different chanels to the AES works as I got the VU meter showing that I receive the sources to the AES but I do not get anything from the AES out to route to the main (e.g.) and when I use the FireworX with the AES-EBU on another audiocard it works so I am probably doing something wrong somewhere in the settings but what ?

Why do you want to get something from the AES output to the main? The AES out is your FX send bus. The AES in is your FX return. You route the input to the main out and control the FX level with the fader of the AES input.

Thanks Knut

I am missing something on the routing I think I make it more complex than it is really.
If I understand you properly I should first select the submix routing option.
than I select AES physical output and I open all the chanels I want to go through the ext FX
than (as you say I should route the AES input to the main out (the related fader will be used to control the FX level ?
Is that correct ?
Thanks for your support

Right. Every output has it's own completely independent mix! This is unique in the whole industry - but of course confusing, as no other hardware provides such a crazy feature. A classicel mixer provides 4 or 8 aux sends, but in TotalMix every output (=submix) works like an aux bus, because if you set the fader to a value the send level of this channel to all other outputs is not affected! Imagine the possibilities.

The AES output is your effects aux bus. On a classical classical mixer you would use the aux send level potis (of aux bus 1/2) to get a stereo mix for your effect unit. In TotalMix you don't need aux potis or an aux bus. The channel faders - if AES out is selected (= brighter) - are your send potis. You can see this very easily if you click another output channel. The faders switch to another position - to the mix for this output (= submix).

than (as you say I should route the AES input to the main out (the related fader will be used to control the FX level ?
Is that correct ?

Right. Output = Send level to unit.
AES input = Return level to main mix. If this output is selected (= brighter). If another output is selected and the AES input fader is moved, you mix the FX return also to this output.

Re: Fireface UFX : Using AES/EBU Ext FX in TotalMix Help needed

Many thanks Knut I love my UFX more and more every day
thanks again for your clear explanation as you say it is a little bit confusing as we should not think "classical mixer" to understand the magic of Total Mix with its unless possibilities.
I will try all this
thanks again for your great support.

Kind regards
Fred
