Topic: Intelligent Clock Control question

I'm attempting to do some re-amping with an AxeFXII using analog for the wet and SPDIF for the dry guitar track.  Basically I record two tracks at once; one track is the full amplified signal and the dry track is just that; the dry guitar signal.  Then I can route that dry track back into the AxeFXII via SPDIF, adjust the settings of the preset and record another track using the dry track as the source.

I can do this using my current interface, but managing the clock source is tricky.  When recording the original take the AxeFXII has to be set to master and the interface as slave.  Once I go to re-amp I have to change the interface to master.  This can be a real hassle while in a project from within my DAW because you have to release the driver before it can change clock sources on the interface.

So my question is basically if I was to buy an RME interface and set it to external clock it would obviously record my wet and dry with no problems.  However will it switch over to the internal clock automatically and how quickly would it do that?  Will it switch back when changing back to an original take as well?  The AxeFXII has a setting to change the input source from guitar to SPDIF which effectively changes it from master/slave so if the RME auto detects and automatically switches I'd imagine this would be the solution I'm looking for.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Oh and no, the AxeFXII does not have a word clock input.

Re: Intelligent Clock Control question

Not possible. When the RME is in slave mode it can not know that the other unit enters slave mode as well - the sample rate will drift in whatever direction...
