Topic: Warning about latest Babyface update

Hey everybody, so last night I was quick to update the latest firmware upgrade for the babyface (v218.) I have a iMac running os OS X 10.8.5 Right afterwards I had a major malfunction. For some reason, the sample rate was completely out of whack. It was playing my pro tools session, which was at 48k, at the wrong sample rate. I believe it was 41k as it was slowed down like a chopped and screwed like a T-Pain song. Even itunes was playing at the wrong sample rate unless I manually changed the sample rate in Fireface settings to 41k, which then played the songs correctly. This cause me some major headaches today. I called Jeff Peterson at the USA support (who was great) and we both trouble shot it for awhile. After finding no obvious culprit, we just uninstalled the firmware upgrade. That's when everything went back to normal. So if the upgrade doesn't apply to you (basically it's for ipads according to Jeff) then avoid upgrading it (at least for macs.)

This could have just been a glitch that only happened on my computer but I suggest the rme tech guys test it out to see if its a more universal problem. Have a good day folks!

Re: Warning about latest Babyface update

I've never had a single problem with my Babyface, until today. I updated to firmware v218 posted in these forums. All I know is that the driver somehow shut down or crashed, as if I didn't have the Babyface connected or something like that. Went back to v204 and it was all normal again.

I'd also be wary about that firmware, for now.

I am not sure why you need to have a BIG warning and why it is URGENT. Everyone can easily go back to the old firmware version, so where is the BIG and URGENT problem?

Re: Warning about latest Babyface update

I changed the header for you. However, at the time I didn't see anything about the problem posted. I was under a lot of pressure on a time sensitive project and the update issue, combined with the clicks and pops I was getting from the babyface, made a confusing situation. The problem wasn't exactly self evident to me. It made my day extremely difficult because I didn't have enough time at the moment to trouble shoot the problem and there was no quick information out there that was an issue at all. So I wrote that post so no one else had to deal with what happened to me. It was urgent and a big problem to me. If you want to control the message on how people post about these bugs/problem, you need to write an official post/statement so people don't go to mine.

Re: Warning about latest Babyface update

Not a good idea when on a "time sensitive" project to go testing firmwares..

Re: Warning about latest Babyface update

You're usually right Garry. However, I was getting a lot of clicks and pops and was seeing if the new upgrade would fix the issue. The clicks and pops I think had to do with having both USBs plugged in but at the time I wasn't aware that was the cause. I had both USBs plugged in because when I first got the babyface, I accidentally plugged in the auxiliary USB first. When it didn't receive enough power I assumed that I had to use both to get it powered. I think this led to clicks and pops happening (it was clicking and popping even without any programs opened.) At the time, I thought it was a software/source clock/setting issue.
