for MADI-FX there is a github project with seemingly good success: https://github.com/adiknoth/madifx
For distinguishing supported hardware we should find better wording than "HDSPe", because for example the HDSPe PCIe requires the original ALSA hdspmixer, whereas HDSPe AIO Pro or Madi-FX require different pieces of drivers and software.

Ideally we would have a common mixer GUI or website like oscmix (again, so awesome!) and an abstraction for whatever is currently controlled via midi/osc, hdspmixer, alsamixer and those extra projects like Madi-FX, AIO Pro.

With https://michaelforney.github.io/oscmix/ and Connection Type Midi you could give it a try, no installing or compiling needed, just Chromium browser. I think it is a promising solution and I always fall back to that URL instead of going the "compiling" route.
In the Github Issues section there's discussion of other models than UCX II.
Also worth mentioning is the Babyface Pro and "alsamixer", which is included by default in practically every linux installation and supports all mixing options, phantom power, pad and gain.

Maybe because "compiling" sounds so daunting at first, I feel like it is an empowering process, like building your own setup, your own tools and that can foster the creative process, too.

Hi, I am very interested in this project as I'm looking to switch from macOS to Linux. I am fairly familiar with Linux, terminal commands etc, but compiling and such is above my paygrade.

I am learning to get used to Reaper. Coming from a couple of decades working with Cubase, I have now set up Reaper to behave like Cubase so I don't have to retrain my muscle memory completely. All other software I am frequently using seems to have good alternatives on Linux - everything but my RME cards - a UCX at home (not II) and a MADI-FX in my recording studio.

So my question is, is there a noob guide to get oscmix running on my Mint installation to work with UCX, and perhaps even the MADI-FX? I've seen the Github but as mentioned I'm not into compiling code and such - yet. I have a basic understanding of OSC, I have mapped out an old Behringer DDM4000 for controlling things like monitor level, headphone, eq, reverb, delay via OSCulator. It's been working very well. I would love to retain this functionality in Linux too, but I would have to use something other than OSCulator.

I'm also considering replacing the MADI-FX for a UFX III if that means I can easier make the switch to Linux.

I am an active user of the RME cards professionally and would love to contribute to this project in any way possible.

Hope to hear from anyone involved in this project.

Musical regards

Apologies, scratch that - I've just done a total mix reset on the hardware and assuming that's worked properly by headphone output is still acting strangely so I don't think it's due to anything I've done in Oscmix.

I'll make a thread if I can't figure it out..

Hi there, thanks for making this tool - without knowing it existed I probably wouldn't have even been able to consider switching to Linux

Since even the OS is very new to me I haven't tried setting up the main program since it looks a bit involved and I'm trying to keep things as simple as possible while I'm figuring things out. Really I don't need to change settings too often (more or less just adjusting hardware input gains etc.) so the web app would likely be enough for me anyway.

I'm almost ready to go with everything else and can now start optimizing buffer settings etc. but I have an issue with my headphones (probably from my intial clicking around to check the UCX was responding to the web app):

In my Oscmix playback channels I have analog 1, 3, 5 etc. Makes sense since they're stereo linked. However I seem to only have analog playback channel 1 going into both my headphone channels rather than playback 1 and 2, so I just have a phasey dual mono headphone output. It doesn't seem possible to 'unlink' the stereo playback channel to correct this - clicking the stereo button doesn't affect the UI the same way it does in, say, the headphone output channels. It seems that regardless of what the 'stereo' button is set to, the playback channel 1 fader is only controlling its left output and not both its left and right.

I've tried various things with the controls available but can't seem to solve the problem. Do you have any ideas please?

Since the software playback channels aren't available for routing via the hardware itself I can't correct it there either.

I'm connected via the MIDI option rather than websocket if that's important..

Also, does the 'standalone MIDI' option on the UCX II need to be enabled for proper operation? I hadn't noticed that setting at first.
