Topic: New i7 2600 DAW, HDSP RPM - which mainboard really works?

Hello guys,

after having lots of trouble over the years with an Asus mainboard in an Intel E6600 based system i'd like to do everything right this time and get a mainboard that *is known to work*.

The new rig will run an i7 2600 (no k necessary) with 8 GB ram, using my RPM/Multiface I via Pci and a UAD-1 on board. So far i read lots of "this mainboard looks good" stuff BUT for once i'd like to be assured that it simply works.

I'd be grateful for every post by somebody with a rockstable i7 Sandy Bridge (socket 1055) configuration!

Thanks a dozen,
Ronny

I somewhat doubt you will find a lot of users who have actually run tests with Sandy Bridge based systems, since both the CPUs and the boards are quite new.

I have nice stable system based on an i7 870 on an Intel DP55KG here, but that may not be what you're looking for if you want the very latest.

Re: New i7 2600 DAW, HDSP RPM - which mainboard really works?

I'm currently troubleshooting issues with the ASrock P67 Extreme4 board. I cannot get the PCIe card to work properly. I've tried my card in another machine and it works fine. I'd avoid this board for now until myself or someone else can find a solution.

Re: New i7 2600 DAW, HDSP RPM - which mainboard really works?

Yeah Daniel,

that's what i heard as well about that certain Intel board. And about Intel, MSI and Gigabyte mainboards in general. I'll update this thread if i was able to gather some reports.

Kind of strange that there's still no proper source for this information. Everytime i'm buying a new PC, i'm facing this very situation smile Maybe i should open a database for working DAW configurations myself...

Hope you'll be able to sort out the problems with your board, Filch!

Re: New i7 2600 DAW, HDSP RPM - which mainboard really works?

I have the P8P67 with an i7 2600K and currently experience issues. RME is on the case and should have a solution soon. I'll update this thread when I get some news.

Re: New i7 2600 DAW, HDSP RPM - which mainboard really works?

I'm running an ASUS P8P67 Pro board, i5-2500k, and the HDSPe and multiface. So far I have not had any issues.

I have the HDSPe in the first PCIe 1x slot, and a Radeon HD5850 in the 1st PCIe 16x slot.

Did you tweak anything or simply got good performance out of the box? Which ram have you got?

Re: New i7 2600 DAW, HDSP RPM - which mainboard really works?

just got this email about the P67 chipsets

An Important Announcement regarding Intel(r) Series 6 Chipsets

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Intel has recently identified an issue with their 6 series chipsets,
which are used with all their 2nd generation Core processors
(code-named Sandy Bridge). This is a potentially serious issue, but it
should not affect your data, just your system's performance. Intel believes
that consumers can continue to use their systems with confidence, while
working with their computer manufacturer for a permanent solution.

However, some users may see degradation in the performance of SATA
devices attached to the system, whether internal or external (such as hard
drives and DVD drives). Intel is not aware of any end-user who has seen this
issue yet, but they expect it to affect a significant percentage of users
eventually, and to worsen over a three year period.

Please be assured that Micro Center will stand behind every customer who
purchased a system or a motherboard from us that features this chipset.
Intel has already made the necessary change in the manufacturing process
to correct the error, and properly functioning replacements will be available
in approximately 8 weeks.

To minimize the disruption to you, we suggest that you continue to use your
system until replacement parts are available. At that time, we will contact
you with instructions regarding how to get your motherboard replaced or your
system repaired.

PLEASE NOTE: There is no problem with the Intel 2nd Generation Core Processors themselves.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused by this issue,
and our assurance that we will keep you informed of any further developments.

Re: New i7 2600 DAW, HDSP RPM - which mainboard really works?

Hey guys,

i was wondering if there are any news regarding this? If you built your i7 based DAW recently i'd love to hear which mainboard you went for. Still trying to find the best choice for my (oldschool) PCI based HDSP system.

Cheers
Ronny
