Topic: Yamaha CP1 as midi controller

Hi, I am trying to use my CP1 as a midi master controller, but when connnected to the RME FF 400, the CP1 is constantly sending midi messages to the RME, not just not on / off etc. The midi light flashes constantly on the RME even when nothing is played. This results in the midi in / out cutting out on the RME if I play notes in quick succession on the CP1. Any ideas? Many Thanks

Re: Yamaha CP1 as midi controller

This is called Active Sensing and should not have any influence on MIDI operation with fast playing... The issue may be a different one. Can you test another keyboard?

Re: Yamaha CP1 as midi controller

I do not have the same issue with my Novation Remote SL.....the light only flashes when I play the keys or move mod wheel etc. Is it something to do with the keyboard?

Re: Yamaha CP1 as midi controller

that would appear to be the issue, is there any way of turning this off? It is seriously affecting my performances when the RME keeps cutting out because of 'MIDI overload' Thanks

Re: Yamaha CP1 as midi controller

If at all, it can only be turned off at the keyboard. And I have never heard of Active Sensing actually affecting MIDI transfer or causing an "overload".

Re: Yamaha CP1 as midi controller

You need to find out if it is really active sensing and not something like a defect modulation wheel or other controller (try to move them all). When the controllers pot is worn or gets dirty it can send out continuous midi data. See if you can download a midi analyser of some sort.
