Topic: Which HARD Drive to chain to my FIREFACE 800 ?

Hello,

I just bought a brand new macbook pro 2011 - 2,2ghz ...

I would like to have an external HD, 2TB, with audio sessions and banxx plugged to the Fireface 800 ---

Anyone of you is having any advice of which one I should buy ?

Should I plug the hardrive after the fireface or between the computer & the fireface ?

Is it better to use a firewire hub instead of chaining ?

Thanx a lot in advance

Re: Which HARD Drive to chain to my FIREFACE 800 ?

I want to know this as well, having a macbook pro and only one firewire 800 port, is it wise to chain an external hard drive to the fireface 800 onto one firewire 800 bus?

What sort of track count you looking at?

USB 2.0 drives such as the Western Digital Passport work really well with the current MBP's - I have 2 which are permanently connected & set to clone my various partitions every hour & they do that in the background via a Trust USB hub without disturbing any audio work I might be doing.
I do have 2 SSD's in the MBP though & am using PTools which caches all of the audio files into Ram, so that helps.

That said, USB 2.0 is plenty fast enough for high track counts esp if you put the drive on it's own port - if I was really partial to a FW800 drive I'd probably get an enclosure & an SSD:

Using several of these OWC Extreme SSD's at moment.....fantastic & 5 year warranty.
