Topic: RME Fireface 800 – big problems in Windows XP

Hello everyone,

I have just bought new audio interface RME Fireface 800.
It has a great sound, but there is one big problem.
When I connect Fireface 800 to computer, Windows XP (and PC) starts to be very slow, there are large delays in all actions.
Somehow PC keeps loosing the connection with my fireface.
And soon - in the end PC and Win XP is blocked completely.
When I disconnect (turn off) FF 800, everthing works fine again as before.
But of course there is no sound.


-    I removed and uninstalled my old firewire audio interface, drivers,…
-    I installed software and drivers on RME driver CD
-    I updated all Windows upadates
-    I updated XP codecs

-    I have a PC - Windows XP SP3, 3gb RAM, firewire 400 cable, …

How to solve this problem?
I am trying to solve this problem by reading audio forums and so on
but without any success so far.
I d like to keep Win XP cause I ve installed many audio software already.
Should I install Windows 7 to solve a problem?

I ve tried almost everything I know so I am loosing my mind.
If anybody could give me some help, I would appreciate a lot !

You tried a different FireWire cable?
Which driver and firmware are you using now?
Your FireWire port is what kind? Chip name, manufacturer, used driver...

I ve tried two firewire cables till now; one I used it with previous firewire audio interface, and one that came with RME FF 800.

I am using driver and firmware from official RME download drivers support page.

I am using PCI controller card - firewire 1394, manufacturer StLAb, chip name chipset: NEC 874, Windows XP automatically detect and install the correct driver for the NEC PCI ieee 1394 Adapter.

Firewire cards with TI (Texas Instrument) chipsets are the best and most recommended for audio interfaces, regardless of brand.

Hello everyone,
I have finally solved this problem.
I bought firewire 800 pci controller with TI chipset.
It works fine for me so far.
So thank you very much for the advice.
