Topic: hdsp 9652 aeb8-o and totalmix setup question

Hi,

I'm in the middle of installing a hdsp 9652 and aeb8 i&o. I'm using the latest drivers (3.085) and have flashed to the latest firmware (108), confirmed in settings. I've connected everything according to the manual: The aeb8-o is connected to adat 1 out port of 9652 with a two wire cable, making sure it's properly grounded. The aeb8-0 is connected to the power supply.

In the hammerfall dialog settings I've checked the "aeb" box  (In the manual it is referred to as "aeb/adat-1" but I only see "aeb"). The spdif in and out are not using adat1. Word clock is set to master, pref sync to word clock.

The only thing I can't get my head around the routing in totalmix need to set up to get sound from the aeb8-o.  My question is could someone please explain how to set up totalmix so I can get sound out the aeb8-o, or maybe find a mistake in my settings.

Thanks in advance

Kind regards

ps. I'm running windows xp 32 with reaper

Re: hdsp 9652 aeb8-o and totalmix setup question

I had an AEB 4O connected to adat 1. These outputs are on adat1 so the first 8 faders at the bottom of totalmix (in my case the first 4 faders). So connect something to the first 2 outputs of the AEB, remember it needs a special cable to split the stereo out (standard insert cable, 1 TRS to 2 TS). Open the 2 first bottom faders and make sure they are selected (highlighted). play something in reaper. In the middle row of totalmix you can see the reaper output and then open those faders while adat1-2 is selected at the bottom.
If you use the AEB O board, the adat output will also still work.
You only have to tick the AEB option in settings if you also use the input card (it disables adat 1 input and selects the AEB as input).

Thanks for your reply (dankjewel),

I'm still not getting any sound. Could you be so kind to look at these screenshots and tell me if you see what I'm doing wrong. I've routed to every output, but still I hear nothing (I'm using a headphone for testing, unlike the aeb4, the aeb8 has unbalanced output. Thanks for your time

This is looking 100% ok and since there is output on adat1/2 there should be sound if the board is connected ok and working. Are there any leds burning on the card? I see at least one green led on mine.

Re: hdsp 9652 aeb8-o and totalmix setup question

Hmmm, both red and green leds are on on the aeb8-o. I'm looking at the 2 pin cable, the dig in (aeb) is connected to adat 1 out (hdsp 9652), grounded correctly. Any thoughts on what I could try?

Re: hdsp 9652 aeb8-o and totalmix setup question

Are you sure the GND connection is on the same lead on both ends of the internal cable?

Re: hdsp 9652 aeb8-o and totalmix setup question

Yes I am sure. I've tried reversing polarity, but then both the green and the red led don't light up. I've also tried connecting the aeb8-0 to the adat2 out, but the same problem: the red led stays on. I've kept my old sound card, so windows isn't using the hdsp9652 as standard soundcard. I've also tried installing the 9652 on another pci slot, but still the red led stays on. Does anyone have any other ideas what I could try. Thanks a lot,

Kind regards

Try ADAT 2 instead. Still red LED? Is that an older / used AEB?

ADAT 2 is the same story, the red light stays on. The aeb8-o is indeed used, I just bought it from a friend who bought it new around 3 years ago. He stopped using it after only a few months because he couldn't use it when he switched to mac. I am running windows xp 32, so it should work, right? Thanks again for trying to help me out

This is impossible. The green LED is connected directly to the +5 V pin of the floppy power connector. If changing the polarity of the 2-pin data cable affects the green LED then this voltage is most probably missing.

Re: hdsp 9652 aeb8-o and totalmix setup question

Thank you so much. I have sound smile You were spot on: the voltage was missing. Now the green led is shining much brighter and the red light is off. (before I only saw the leds if my room was very dark, now it's bright as a christmas tree). Thanks for putting up me! I do have some crackles, so I might pop up again if I can't resolve it myself smile

Vielen dank

Don´t forget to try a cold boot, after fiddling.

A cold boot cured the crackles. Case closed smile

I just had the crackles after removing my AEB 4O (had been sittng there unused for months). Hence the advice for a cold one......
MC you take one too, not a virtual one this time......
