Topic: [Solved] Problem playback CD audio / wav / MP3 w/ WMP in Win7

Hi,
I recently bought RME Babyface, download the latest driver v0.966 & firmware v197 in Windows 7 Home Premium.
I setup so the system sound (Windows) is RME to play some music from CD audio, wav & mp3 using Windows Media Player & the results are for some minutes it goes well & then suddenly they stuttered sad
After that, they always sound stuttered, I have to restart the computer, but after sometime, they begin to stuttered again.

I know that in RME manual stated to disable system sound but I would like to play some music when I'm not using the DAW.

I already try to use different buffersize, different sample rate (I know I shouldn't change SR but I'm hopeless) sad

So the question is :
How can I have a smooth playback for my Windows Media Player ? Because with other not so high-end audio interface, they're not like that.

Please help.

Thanks.

Download http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml to check for possible issues.

Does the same problem happen when you use other playback software like Windows Media Center?

Yes, I try Windows Media Center (actually this is my favorite playback software), VLC & Media Monkey...all have this problem...stuttered & distorted playback sad

Thanks, I'll take a look of the link.

I read your answer for problems in laptop for other member. I mean this answer :
"If it's a laptop turn off the "ACPI compliant Battery method" via device-manager"

I'm going to try that.

Btw, what that options meaning ? What happen when I disable it ?

Thanks

The "ACPI compliant battery control method" polls the battery status of laptops every 15 seconds and sometimes causes DPC spikes because of this. DPC spikes/latencies can cause audio drop-outs, especially at small audio buffer settings.

Also check if you are running any other hardware monitoring software (fan speed, temperatures, etc), or software that controls special keys on your computer (volume, screen brightness etc). These also can cause interruptions.

Halo Timur,
I have turn off the "ACPI compliant Battery method" via device-manager but this not solved the problem.
I turn off other hardware monitoring software & these not help too.

It bug my mind when with other audio interface like Presonus Audiobox, Lexicon Omega, they don't have these problem eventhough I don't turn off anything sad

Sorry, not to bashing Babyface but to find a solution for this.

Do others have this problem too ?

Btw, thanks for the time to answer this, Timur.

The BF transfers many more channels via USB 2.0 than the units you mention (which work on USB 1.1), so this is no valid comparison. First update to the latest betas found in this forum, firmware 183 and driver 0.979. Then when the stuttering still occurs look for errors in the Settings dialog.

Sorry, not to be rude or anything, but with USB 1.1 they are not as much bandwidth / data transfer rate compared to USB 2, but why with the same simple task (playing back Wav), BF stuttered & distorted ?

I try the beta driver 1st & let you know.

Thanks
