UFX Oddity Monitoring thru Sequoia

Brand new UFX owner so it’s likely me missing something but this makes no sense as of yet.

System config is:
TotalMix FX 0.93    SSE Optimization
UFX flash update tool shows
USB 342  FW336  DSP 112     Fut_usb.exe says the unit is up to date (per the CD)

There may be some more current downloads but this is what came with the unit upon opening it yesterday and setting it up so these should be reasonably viable. Working updates may be good, but it’s early in the curve to be doing beta or alpha testing on this rig. This needs to be stable and proper.

Computer is:
ASUS C90 laptop
XP Home SP2
Intel Core 2 Duo 6700@2.66GHz
2.87Gb RAM

Sequoia V11.2

Have three mics into the UFX, a pair on Mic 9 & 10 and an external mic pre going into Line 1 for testing and system setup.
Sequoia is set for individual mono inputs summing to Master out 1&2
12 Tracks in record, 3 with real signal, another three with preamp noise floors.
Master out should go to the Mains monitors and both of the Headphones.

This computer has historically yielded clean monitoring thru Sequoia for record monitoring and balancing a scratch mix while getting data from a Mytek 8X192 w/Firewire or a Mackie 1640 w/Firewire.

With the UFX and TotalMix, the inputs monitored thru Sequoia have phase delay that is related to the change in setting of the UFX ASIO buffer size.  Sequoia is using the Mixer FX Monitoring Hybrid Engine for full ASIO use, this allows the mix to go to the Main and the Headphone outputs on the UFX.

TotalMix is routing the 3 mics to their direct assignment in Sequoia inputs only. There is no apparent mult-ing of any signal. I have connected the UFX by Firewire and by USB with no real change in results.  It also seems as if I don’t get completely reliable recordings at settings under 512 ASIO buffer at this point.

If the mics are sent directly out to monitor via TotalMix, things are clean as expected. However, this doesn’t do me much good. Since the main application is classical location recording, monitoring thru the Sequoia desk is important. The balances and monitor EQ made during the live recording on the desk in Sequoia are often used as a basis for later development and for producing quick CD refs while still on location.

What am I doing wrong to be getting the flanged/phased delay sound thru Sequoia monitoring on input or in record and how do I fix that?  The phase/delay is input/record monitoring only as Playback from Sequoia is fine, of course. What the :censored am I missing?

Thanks.

Re: UFX Oddity Monitoring thru Sequoia

Check Totalmix settings, signal is clearly being monitored both ways here (TM and Sequoia). Mute inputs or pull down faders...

Re: UFX Oddity Monitoring thru Sequoia

could have sworn I had them all down, I'll go thru it all again and check back.

Thanks

ok  took the setup to barest simplicity

1 mic in on Line 1
Hardware input shows meter deflection on AN 1, mute on, fader down
All  other HW inputs have mute on, fader down, no signal

Software PB: AN1/2 assigned to Main, PH 9/10, PH 11/12
otherwise there is no audio monitoring at all on those outputs
w/ mute on and fader down, it will show meter deflection but no outputs

set ASIO buffer to 2048 to make the effect obvious

it's still happening, big doubling delay on the single mic when monitoring input/record thru Sequoia
playback is fine.
Sequoia master output is 1/2 which should be going to AN 1/2 out

in Matrix View
all blank except
AN1/2 -> out1/2 Main, 9/10 PH1, 11/12PH2
outputs-> Main 0/0, PH1 0/0, PH2 0/0

I freely admit to being an idiot here, but what am I doing wrong?

Seq System Options (y), Audio System. Make sure the slider 'Monitoring' is not set to 'Hardware Monitoring'.

as noted earlier in the thread : "Sequoia is using the Mixer FX Monitoring Hybrid Engine for full ASIO use, this allows the mix to go to the Main and the Headphone outputs on the UFX."
that's the far right position of the monitoring slider, the  opposite end of Hardware Monitoring, which is the far left position. I made it a point to walk thru -all- the monitoring options yesterday. Hybrid Engine is the only real option to use.

and.... upon bootup, it appears to be just fine this morning. :roll

i hate computers

anyway, it's 20 minutes into a 1 hour 12 track test record at 128 buffer ASIO setting
It will be stress tested over the day but so far, so good. Just a good clean delay with large buffer settings, no doubling/phasing issues.  FWIW, bootup sequence was to let the computer come all the up, then boot the UFX and let it be recognized, then insert the dongle for Sequoia and boot it. I've had experience with the dongle being inserted before the computer is booted sometimes leading to start up issues. Perhaps that was the demon at fault confusing the USB buss, that will be chased later on.

Major compliments to RME staffers who answered questions from a dolt over the weekend at all hours.
Lots of other companies could learn about client and product support from you guys.  And, the UFX is so far a really great box.
Thank you.
