UFX Oddity Monitoring thru Sequoia
Brand new UFX owner so it’s likely me missing something but this makes no sense as of yet.
System config is:
TotalMix FX 0.93 SSE Optimization
UFX flash update tool shows
USB 342 FW336 DSP 112 Fut_usb.exe says the unit is up to date (per the CD)
There may be some more current downloads but this is what came with the unit upon opening it yesterday and setting it up so these should be reasonably viable. Working updates may be good, but it’s early in the curve to be doing beta or alpha testing on this rig. This needs to be stable and proper.
Computer is:
ASUS C90 laptop
XP Home SP2
Intel Core 2 Duo 6700@2.66GHz
2.87Gb RAM
Sequoia V11.2
Have three mics into the UFX, a pair on Mic 9 & 10 and an external mic pre going into Line 1 for testing and system setup.
Sequoia is set for individual mono inputs summing to Master out 1&2
12 Tracks in record, 3 with real signal, another three with preamp noise floors.
Master out should go to the Mains monitors and both of the Headphones.
This computer has historically yielded clean monitoring thru Sequoia for record monitoring and balancing a scratch mix while getting data from a Mytek 8X192 w/Firewire or a Mackie 1640 w/Firewire.
With the UFX and TotalMix, the inputs monitored thru Sequoia have phase delay that is related to the change in setting of the UFX ASIO buffer size. Sequoia is using the Mixer FX Monitoring Hybrid Engine for full ASIO use, this allows the mix to go to the Main and the Headphone outputs on the UFX.
TotalMix is routing the 3 mics to their direct assignment in Sequoia inputs only. There is no apparent mult-ing of any signal. I have connected the UFX by Firewire and by USB with no real change in results. It also seems as if I don’t get completely reliable recordings at settings under 512 ASIO buffer at this point.
If the mics are sent directly out to monitor via TotalMix, things are clean as expected. However, this doesn’t do me much good. Since the main application is classical location recording, monitoring thru the Sequoia desk is important. The balances and monitor EQ made during the live recording on the desk in Sequoia are often used as a basis for later development and for producing quick CD refs while still on location.
What am I doing wrong to be getting the flanged/phased delay sound thru Sequoia monitoring on input or in record and how do I fix that? The phase/delay is input/record monitoring only as Playback from Sequoia is fine, of course. What the :censored am I missing?
Thanks.
