Topic: Need assistance to solve weirdness in UFX and Total Mix output

Today I installed my new Fireface UFX on a Mac Pro running 10.6.8, with DP 7.23 as the main DAW (I also use Logic).  Downloaded and installed the latest drivers and firmware.  The device shows up in the audio-midi panel, the midi works, etc.  For basic testing, I ran the outs of an external midi synth (Roland XV-5080) into analog 1-2 of the UFX; I hooked up my monitor speakers to analog outputs 1-2 (main).  The synth is receiving midi signal from the UFX, and its output shows up in Total Mix meter on input analog 1-2.

Here's where it gets weird.  Analog 1-2 (along with every other input) is routed to the Main (analog 1-2) out (according to the Matrix view).  It shows up visually in the hardware outputs (analog 3-4, 5-6, 7-8), but not at the Mix output (analog 1-2).  There is only one exception: Analog 3-4 shows up at the Mix as well as analog 3-4 out.  So I can hear anything in the software instruments I set to analog 3-4 out, but not to anything else (I'm just talking analog here, haven't hooked up the AES, etc. yet).

To make things stranger, I can't hear any audio output from the Mac at all (like iTunes, etc.) when the UFX is selected as the main sound output device.  This wasn't the case when I used Apogee Symphony, whose 32-PCI card is no longer compatible with 10.6.8 and later OS.

Well, I'm probably missing something basic, but I thought I would query the list and see if I could find out what it is.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Roger

Re: Need assistance to solve weirdness in UFX and Total Mix output

Are you sure you are looking at hardware inputs (top half), not software playback (bottom half) in the matrix view? Input are not routed to outputs in the default setup.

As for iTunes, did you select the UFX as default playback device in System Preferences? Is playback signal shown at the AN 1/2 output channels on the mixer?
