Topic: 5400rpm versus 7200rpm portable HD for UFX DURec
Hello,
My use of UFX as a location recording gear is increasing, and I want to use portable USB2.0 hard drives instead of flash memory drives. Most of the time, I record 6-8 analog channels, at 24/96 for 3 hours or 4 hours straight, so I don't want to worry about the memory capacity of the 8-16GB flash drives. I have a couple of old 100GB Seagate portable drives (FreeAgent Go) in my disposal, and I'm using them right now. The use of bandwidth (? I believe it is, but the number next to the USB on the UFX display, or the number below the HD in TMFX) is showing ~20% when I have 8ch, 24/96 record setup with these Seagate 100GB drives. So, I guess I have enough headroom in terms of the bandwidth for the USB HD recording.
I just want to add one or two more portable drives to cycle the use. So, I looked at Newegg, and there are some (not many) 7200rpm portable hard drives these days. Do you think I get performance benefit by that, or just 5400rpm is enough? I'm just worried about power supply of the 7200rpm drives. I may underpower the drive's because of the high rpm? I don't know. If you have some experience with 7200rpm portable hard drive, let me know. Actual model will also help greatly.
Best regards,
