Topic: independant simultaneaous midi control inputs for each submixes
I know a lot has already been written about this and it is possible to select individual submix buses using midi CC's in the fireface totalmix console.
I have a scenario with different requirements than I have seen discussed by other users so far.
In my studio I have five separate rooms which can be used for recording. I want to allow the performers to control their own individual headphone mixes of a live recording using midi remote control of there own individual submix bus. So they will need to control the input levels of all the other instruments being recorded and sometimes the stereo playback mix.
While this is all possible using a number of Korg nano controls there are some problems if performers try to change mixes simultaneously. Currently i am using midi-ox to send a submix selection CC for each change in value of the CC' corresponding to a given input fader. So to move a fader from 0 -127 requires 127 submix selections. This is to ensure that another user can't interrupt the adjustment and change the submix selection during process of the first user. If only one submix selection CC is sent at the beginning of the adjustment of no.1's mix, then no.2 adjusts the mix on the next bus, no. 1's adjustment will then also effect no 2's mix.
The problem with this is it seems to make for very sluggish operation as the fireface is continually selecting the submix and the fader lags behind, especially with faster movements.
The only really effective way around this I can imagine would be to have separate CC's for each input fader/pan in every single submix as apposed to the current situation where the CC's are the same for each input and and are only active for the currently selected submix.
The other possibility would be to write a complicated midi script that would hold and delay for x no. of milliseconds, incoming midi data till a current operation had completed.
If anyone has suggestions for other ways around this problem or ways to implement this with midi mapping/filtering I would be very grateful.
cheers Greg
