Topic: Multiface Midi Port Problem

I have 3 Multiface II installed in a Windows 7 system. The Mutlifaces work excellent. Only with Midi I encounter a problem.

In my Cubase 6 application, under Midi port settings:

- the midi ports of Multiface #2 and Multiface #3 show up as "Windows Midi" In / Out ports. When I select one of these ports as midi input for vst instruments, all works fine.

- the midi port of Multiface #1 shows up different: the port is listed 3 times and as "DirectMusic" In /Out port. This seems to be very odd.

When I try to use one of those three odd directmusic in ports of the multiface #1, it does not work.

I am not a midi expert. I wonder:

a) how can I change how the midi ports of my multifaces show up in the system (directmusic, Windows Midi)?
b) if I can change this, what is the prefered setting?
c) how can I fix the errouneous listing of the midi port of my multiface #1

Sorry for these kind of basic questions but I just don't know how to go about this. I would be grateful for some information which helps me to understand how to deal with midi port settings in my Windows 7 system.

regards, Mikael

Re: Multiface Midi Port Problem

Hi Mikael,

Here is the info on dealing wiht Direct Music and Windows MIdi issues in Cubase.
ftp://ftp.steinberg.net/Download/Genera … ter_EN.pdf

Have you had other MIDI devices installed before?
Was this system a Vista upgrade or a fresh install of 7?

Thanks Chris

Re: Multiface Midi Port Problem

Hi Chris,

thank you for the information.

Now I used the ignore port filter file, I manually disabled all directmusic ports, and in the now unfiltered list I do actually see the windows midi ports for all 3 multifaces and they all work correctly as expected.

Thanks for helping out.

Btw, this was a fresh Windows 7 install, and the only other midi devices installed are 3 Euphonix (Avid) McMix and 1 McTransport controllers.
