Topic: RME AIO level Settings with HEDD

Hi there,

I’m using AIO AES inputs that are fed from cranesong HEDD. What is the correct way of setting Input and Output levels?
For now I have:
Input level checked at: -10dBV (is it right?)

Then unbalanced output of AIO is send to EBTECH line level shifter that takes it as +4dBV and sends it to my monitors as -10Dbv.
Do I still need to check it as +4dBV in RME settings or since I’m converting the signal to -10dBV I should check it as -10dBV?

Please, help me out with this

Cheers,

Also, do I have to check AES/spdf In TMS box?

No, this is the analog input level, no bearing on AES/EBU input.

Then unbalanced output of AIO is send to EBTECH line level shifter that takes it as +4dBV and sends it to my monitors as -10Dbv.

Not sure I understand the idea here. The unbalanced (RCA) output should be set to -10dBV in HDSP settings, and you should not require the EBTECH device at all.

No, TMS is track marker support, which won't be any use to you.

Re: RME AIO level Settings with HEDD

Hi Jeff,

As per your instruction I just took the unbalanced output of AIO, plugged them directly into presonus monitor station and set them to -10dBV. It works just fine! Now, I need to figure out why did I get EBTECH in the first place?! I think I just wanted to convert unbalanced to balanced but it seems that it works better without EBTECH…I thought, I was supposed to lose some gain and get extra noise if I plug it directly…Any ideas?
Thanks very much!

Re: RME AIO level Settings with HEDD

I expect it would have made more sense to buy the balanced breakout cable for AIO instead of this device.

Re: RME AIO level Settings with HEDD

The balanced breakout cable was not available in North America last fall. Is it available now? If so, who sells it and how long would it take to ship it to Montreal?

Thanks

They are available now, contact your dealer.
