Topic: Asus Mobo with VIA firewire chipset work for Fireface 800?

Hey Everyone -

After many hours of research to build a new studio machine, it turns out my mobo is not ever going to work with my UAD-2 card, so now I'm trying to replace the mobo with another that matches as closely as possible - so i don't have to buy new RAM, drives, video card, all over again. I am looking currently at the Asus P6X58 and I was able to find that the firewire chipset is VIA 6308P. Now I tried to search the forum already but "VIA" is also a real word that gets used a lot, soooo search results were foggy. So the question is -

Has anyone got a Fireface 800 working with a VIA firewire chipset? Seems most Asus mobo's use this.

Secondary question, and I'm surprised I couldn't find this by searching either...
What PCI firewire cards have been known to work with the Fireface(s)?

I should also note that I'm already using the Lindy active extender just to get the length I need.

Thanks in advance to anyone with input!

Hi 13rian,

I've got an Asus P5Q. I think it features a VIA firewire chipset and my FF800 works fine.

Here's an interesting link : http://www.rme-audio.de/en_support_tech … ire_compat

thanks for the link, interesting indeed. looking at your mobo on the asus site -

appears you have an LSI firewire controller, another one I've never heard of. I'm thinking of going for the Asus and getting a PCI FW card, just in case.

I had P5K (VIA FW) board for years and it worked great till v3 drivers. With v3 FF driver i had a lot of blue screens of death on XP32.
