Topic: Which Laptop PC (a new one) to have an expresscard34 compatible port ?

Hi,

I want to buy a brand new Laptop PC to use with my HDSPe + MULTIFACE II

If you use a PC, please tell me brand & model that work for you !

prefered setup :
core i5
4go ram or more
graphic card with 1Go or more with vga or dvi for 2nd screen
HD 7200t
wifi & bluetooth

for music on stage & home studio, I need something professional !

I have a Lenovo T 410S with i7 and Nvidia NVS3100.
Works great here with Expresscard MAdi and Madiface.

Hi,
On new laptops it seems laptop manufacturers are only including express slots on higher end models.
Even then its seem sot be a rarity.
The Lenovo T410s does not seem to be available anymore in the US direct from Lenovo but you might be able to find stores with them still or used.

Hi,
ADK, Dell and ASUS all at least one model with an express slot still currently available.
The ADK one is the only one I know works with the MADI express card.
The others might but haven't tested. If you get one from a major retailer mae sure they have aa good return policy.
It won't take long to know that the express slot does not work.

There are several suppliers of audio PCs and laptops in Germany, who I am sure will gladly ship to France. Not sure if there is one in France...

I'm searching a French computer setup, no matter if it's bought in France or Germany, I can consider Europe around.
As I go along forum & shops (I've search for asus, then dell, I just found one dell that suits my needs even in alienware and) to search for the right computer ; that even apple stops the express card port ...
what are you preparing to plug multiface II now ?

Macbook Pro 17" still come with ExpressCard slots. These don't always work 100% though.

Hi fdevil,
There is no definite way to know if any of these models will work or not. Even if they all have the same hardware specs, there is no way to know for sure they would work without trying it out yourself. An off the shelf main stream laptops like these is not configured or designed with high performance audio production in mind. If the laptop, you purchased is working then you got  lucky with this manufacturer. They  just happened to configure their BIOS and hardware in such a way as to work with your audio hardware.
You should make sure that the store you buy this from has a liberal return policy in case it does not work with your audio hardware/software.

By the time we've tested a new laptop, it may no longer be in the market or specs may have changed. Also, we can't just keep buying and testing stuff, time is needed for development of new products etc.
Therefore the recommendation is that if you need a system that works without the need to optimize it, contact a dedicated Audio PC builder...

If the laptop manufacturers in Europe are using Clevo based laptops then they should be able to special order a French Keyboard for the system.
At least here in the US any of the larger Clevo dealers can order non US keyboards. It is a pain to do but it is possible.
Of course not sure if they can get one of those crazy french keyboards though. tongue

I can customize, I can browse and choose in a bios or in an oprating system since years smile I'm just searching for an express-card-rme-pc-laptop that could do the job, nothing more.
