Topic: sound explosion

Hi,

I'm using an AIO in a Win7 PC into a Panasonic DA7 board via adat.
(I am using adat sync in the RME applet)

So, I'm sitting there listening to a track in Sonar at pretty good levels. Hit rewind and BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.
A huge feedback type spike about blew my head off. This has happened before with another tune and  I was going to post here about it but, I just don't have any further info than that.

I never had anything like this with the old 9652.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Tim

Re: sound explosion

Not getting much love here.

OK, I made a video of a related noise. At least I think it's related.
(This is not the noise I was referring to in the original post.)

What's wrong with my card
Notice in this video, when I relocate playback with the cursor, the noise that occurs. (at each clik of the cursor on the timeline).

This is similiar to the original BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA feedback sound, however not as bad, as it a short bleep .

Please help/advise.
Thanks

Re: sound explosion

Hi,
We need to know useful information in order to help you.
1. What are the settings on the HDSP Settings Panel?
2. Have you optimized Windows 7 for audio use?
http://www.tweakhound.com/windows7/tweaking/index.html
3. What are you computer specs? Mainly need o know brand/model, video card an what other PCI-e/PCI, USB and fire wire devices are plugged in.

Thanks Chris

asus p8p67 board
16 gigs ram
3 drives
HIS 5450 video (PCI-E)
USB = motu interface, korg drum pad thing, occasional lynksys network adapter.

Re: sound explosion

Change the buffer size to 256, try again.

Buffer size makes no difference

Re: sound explosion

Hi,
Set SPDIF In to Coaxial.
Personally I think it would be better to run the Panasonic as a slave to the RME via ADAT. Not sure how happy the DA7 is running as a slave though. It would be more convenient and potentially sound better to have the RME be master as it has more stable clocking than the older DA7.

Thanks Chris

Re: sound explosion

Hi Chris.
Ok, set to coaxial. (even though I don't use it)
As far as Panasonic running as slave, is that something I set in the panasonic?
If so, I have a feeling the Panasonic won't like that.
And, why would it be more "convenient"?

Also, I tried "internal" and "sync in" on the RME applet and notice no change with the feedback noise.
With The 'internal' setting, the "sync" sort of blinks between 'sync' and 'lock'.

I'll go see about a slave setting in the mixer.

Thanks

Re: sound explosion

If you set it to internal, disconnect the Panasonic and use headphones on the AIO and still have the issue, you know it is not a sync or external issue.

The reason you should change this is that when SPDIF In is set to optical, your ADAT input is not set to accept ADAT. Instead it is set to accept optical SPDIF, which would cause trouble.

Re: sound explosion

I disconnected the panasonic from the system. plugged in headphones to the AIO. still get the noise.
BTW, this noise is only from the right channel if that makes any difference.

Bad card?
