Topic: Using Multiface and Fireface 400 Together

Greetings.

I wish to use these two devices simultaneously to provide 16 channels of A to D conversion.

I have experimented with connecting them to the computer separately (Fireface via Firewire port, Multiface via Cardbus), and this seems to work.

Would it be more desirable to connect the Fireface to the Multiface via SPDIF or ADAT so that they can share the same clock?

I expect to need more than 8 channels to record a large drum kit, so want all samples to be synchronised.

If you did not conect them (for example via word clock) your setup is wrong. They have to share their clock anyway. The advantage of just using ADAT is that only one device puts its load on the computer.
