Topic: Digital Performer Issue with new FF800 Drivers

I just updated to the latest drivers as noted on RME's download page - Mac OS X Intel driver for Fireface 400 / 800 / UFX, version 3.01. Supports 10.5 in 32 bit, 10.6 in 32/64 bit and 10.7. This driver requires firmware 1.70 (FF 400) and 2.77 (FF 800) or higher.  I am using a Intel iMac i5 2.5 Ghz with 12 gigs RAM, OS 10.6.8 and the FF800.  Every thing in my system is the same as it was before installing the new RME drivers and I didn't have this 'new' issue.  The issue is when ever I open up an existing session in Digital Performer 7.24 the audio that is there will not play.  They only way that it will play is if I go into DP's Setup/Configure Audio System/Configure Hardware Driver and then simply click 'OK'.  The Hardware driver in DP is already selected to the FF800 so I am not changing that.

I have run Disk Utility twice, shut down and restarted holding down the Option/Command P&R to clear the PRAM, reinstalled Digital Performer and still the problem exists.

If you have a solution please let me know.

Thanks

Re: Digital Performer Issue with new FF800 Drivers

The new driver has a different device layout. Seems you have to do this in DP at least one time, then save the project. The project then should come up without this problem. Maybe you have to do the same one time with all your existing projects.

Re: Digital Performer Issue with new FF800 Drivers

Matthias,

Yes every new session this has to be done along with existing...how inconvenient is that!?  I am sure there is a purpose for the new device layout but there is no way around this?  I do voice work and deal with many, many sessions per day and now I have to do this step for each of them?  Absolutely Nuts!!!

Re: Digital Performer Issue with new FF800 Drivers

If you have to do this for every new session even after setting/storing it for an existing one then you will have to delete some preferences somewhere, where DP has stored the interface capabilities earlier. Please ask Motu where that could be, we are not familiar with DP.

Ok that's good news...I will speak with them.  Thanks!

Re: Digital Performer Issue with new FF800 Drivers

Matthais thank you for your help I figured it out.  Now I do have another issue that has happened in the past before updating to the new drivers.  It only happens occasionally but none the less a bit frustrating and I'm not sure where the issue lies.  When exporting a session after the export I lose the ability to play audio through the FF800.  It's like it just stops working.  The only solution that I have been able to get to work is to restart my Mac.  I am going through FW800 and in that same line I have the UAD Satellite - so the connection is: UAD out to the FF800 to the Mac.  Obviously the UAD could be the issue but I thought I would run this by you.

Thanks.

Re: Digital Performer Issue with new FF800 Drivers

Could you please explain the solution for the benefit of other readers?

Regarding the other issue: did you try a different program (like iTunes) to see if that one still plays audio? Did you check the FF Settingsdialog for all states are correct? The FF has the red LED on or off?

Re: Digital Performer Issue with new FF800 Drivers

Hi Matthias,

The solution was that I previously made a template for each session which was based upon the previous driver and FF800 set up.  So I modified the outputs in the template to what the new drivers are predicating and saved it.  So now every time that I open a new session it is based upon that.  Thus it works.  Yes, every time I open up an old session I still have to go into configure hardware and click 'ok' but that is a whole lot better than having to doing it for every new session.

Regarding the other issue I did check it with Quicktime and nothing will play.  I tried pretty much all that I can to find a work around other than restarting and so far I have found nothing.  I tried turning the FF800 off and back on - nothing.  Tried turning off the UAD and back on - nothing.  Tried doing it to both - nothing.  Tried thumbing around in the FF software to see if there was any issue but couldn't find anything.  Rebooting was the only thing so far.

Appreciate your help in this seems it's happens more often than I like.  Again, this issue happened with both the previous driver and this one.

Re: Digital Performer Issue with new FF800 Drivers

Sorry for the inconvenience. This has been an oversight on our side while changing the internal structure for optimized Lion performance. A new driver that has the correct channel names again will be available today or tomorrow.

Thank you for looking into this and being so pro active in finding a solution.  I have installed the driver and will keep you posted of the outcome.

Thank you again.

Re: Digital Performer Issue with new FF800 Drivers

Matthias, well so far so good on the new driver!  I am exporting without the FF or what ever shutting down afterwards.  Very pleased for this and how you handled it.  Thank you!
