Topic: Firewire 400 compatiblity / performance with Mac Mini / OS X Lion

Hi there,

I've been the owner of an RME Fireface 400 for a year or so now and it performed well with my MacBook Pro until the logic board went in that machine recently.

I'm thinking of investing in a new Mac Mini :

    * 2.3GHz dual-core Intel Core i5
    * 2GB memory (or possibly 4GB)
    * 500GB hard drive1
    * OS X Lion

I was in touch with the store that I am planning to purchase the Mac Mini from and I asked them if the RME Fireface 400 was likely to be compatible with the latest operating system etc.

They said the best thing to do was to contact RME to find out, so here I am...
(I sent an email to info AT audioag dot com 2 days ago, but not heard anything back just yet)

Did some searching on the forum here and there seems to be some issues with the Fireface 800, but are things different for the 400 model ?

Assuming that compatibility isn't going to be an issue, does anyone here run a similar setup and how do they find the performance ?

Hello my friend,

Did you go ahead with the Mac Mini after all?
I had the same thoughts and I wanted to know how it went...

Thanks

Re: Firewire 400 compatiblity / performance with Mac Mini / OS X Lion

im running it on an older mac mini, and i am having a slight dropout problem, but im not sure why,0 i suspect it can be resolved, i just dont know how a mac mini would stand up to a larger tower for substantially less amount of clams.

i tell you, i would love to have a powerhouse laptop.
