Topic: FF800 causing bluescreen crash windows 7

FF800 randomly dropped out and upon restarting pc caused bluescreen and shutdown on the windows startup screen.  The PC will not boot with the FF on, but works without issue when the FF is disconnected.  I have tried 2 brand new firewire cables but the situation did not change.  The FF was not showing up in the devices menu so I could not simply update the drivers.  I uninstalled from the control panel\programs list and then installed the latest drivers from scratch.  The same problem occurs.  I am obviously unable to update to the latest firmware due the FF crashing the system if turned on and connected.
Any ideas?
Thanks

I should also note that I was experiencing issues a few months back with intermittent dropouts from the fireface.  I believe I had to shutdown, unplug and replug the cable and it would work after a few attempts.  This happened maybe 4 or 5 times and it eventually stopped this behavior.  For what its worth there is no strain ever placed on the cable, and the unit never moves from its location.
