Topic: Can I use the babyface to process audio with analog hardware?

I want to move to OTB mixing.  I’m planning on getting a lunchbox filled with hardware EQ/compressors.  Can I use the babyface and TotalMix to route the audio OUT of my DAW to my hardware (API 550B EQ, etc) and then back into my DAW as a channel insert.    Would latency be an issue?

My main goal here is to process audio with my hardware and mix with real EQ’s as opposed to plugins.  I am already set with preamps and I work alone, so I don’t need a lot of I/O.  I realize I could only do 1 stereo track at a time.

Thanks

Why not?? And as for latency, I guess you have to use like others do using a DAW - ASIO Drivers. There is always latency, if not using ASIO Drivers for your DAW.

You play the audio output (probably on a different output then what you are using as the input) and go to the equipment and then go back into the babyface on the Inputs. As for me, I use ASIO 1 input and output is ASIO 3, but then I have the sound in Windows set in and out both on ASIO 1 which probably works also, 1 being the AN1 and AN2 channels and 3/4 being the headphones channels, depending on how you route the TotalMixFX software console, which can be routed any number of ways. Best to read the manual for the babyface, somewhere linked here at RME.

And I guess I don't input that much in Windows say like Media Player, that is why both playback and record are set on ASIO 1. But in the DAWS, I think it is better to pick a certain input and pick a different output, because the ADAT or SPIDF can also be channels in, and all of that. But output is as far as I know, AN1 and AN2 or the Headphones Channels - 3/4.
Check the manual.

I listen at the same time to other parts in the DAWS while recording the new part.
