Topic: Connecting two ufx

Ok, I'm planing two get to ufx to have 24 analog inputs..

Is it going to be simple to connect them both or do I have to make some "magic" on the software and so on ?
What I'm whiling to do is to use one of the ufx as a ADC at stand alone mode

Just to make everything clear:
I'll get one UFX, connect it to the pc via USB. That is going to give me 12 analog inputs.
Then I'm going to get a second ufx, I'm not going to connect it to the pc via USB or Firewire, I will just turn it on and plug it's ADAT out to the ADAT in on the first unit. After that I'll have 24 analog inputs.

Is it going to work ?

Thanks already!

Re: Connecting two ufx

Why not just get 2 ADDA converters hook them to the ADAT ins on the UFX and have 28 Analog ins?

Re: Connecting two ufx

^ That's prolly what I'd do, too.  8 Channel ADAT Mic Pres are rather abundant and range from mid $200's to over $1000, but not many of them are on the same level as the UFX's AD's and Preamps.

One hidden benefit of shelling out the big bucks for a second FF-UFX is the redundancy factor.  If #1 dies, then you can still limp by and run unit #2 by itself.  This can be a mafor benefit if your "up time" is worth money.  I have redundant MADI cards and AD/DA's for such porposes - not cheap, but fantastic insurance...

Re: Connecting two ufx

Thanks for the advice!!
You guys are talking about the ADI-8 DS, right ?

With I buy an UFX and an ADI-8 DS, I'll just have to connect the ADI to the UFX via ADAT right ?

My preamps don't have any ADAT output, they are all analog output (xlr), I would connect them to the ADI8-DS via xlr-trs cables, then connect the ADAT main connection on the output side of the unit to the ADAT in on the UFX, and that would give me 20 channels... The ADI should be set this way:
Input level: lo gain (so I can boost the pre amps)
Process: Off
Copy Mode: off, because I'm going to use analog inputs
A/D: Int. Since I'm using analog inputs
Clock: 44.1 or 48 it depends
D/A: Input, since I'm going to use ADAT out
Digital input: doesn't matter
Combine: Off
Output: -10/+4 (Depeding on how much signal my Preamps are giving)

Is that right ?

This is just so confunsig for me =X

BTW, if you guys don't mind, what are the differences between the ADI8-DS to the ADI8-QS ?

Thanks again and sorry for the noob questions!

Re: Connecting two ufx

Here is the quick connectivity comparison:

ADI-8 QS
1.    8 x Analog I/O (up to +24 dBu)
2.    4 x AES/EBU I/O (8 channels @ 192 kHz)
3.    2 x ADAT I/O (SMUX and SMUX4)
4.    MIDI I/O
5.    Word Clock I/O
6.    optional MADI I/O (I64 MADI Card)
7.    Remote Control (Volume, DIM, Preset)
8.     Sample Rate up to 192 kHz

ADI-8 DS Connectivity
1.    8 x Analog I/O
2.    2 x ADAT I/O
3.    1 x TDIF-I/O
4.    1 x Word Clock I/O
5.    Samplerate: up to 96 kHz

Re: Connecting two ufx

Guess the DS is going to be enough for me then!
Thanks for that!
