Topic: Latest Driver 1.66 causing wrong Sample Rate on startup

Latest Driver 1.66 causing wrong Sample Rate on Computer startup

MacBook Pro - early 2008
OS X 10.6.8

Issue occurring after updating to latest driver 1.66.

I turned on FFUC, then computer.
• Audio Midi shows 30000.0 Hz
• Total Mix shows 32.0k
• Fireface USB Settings show 44100 Hz (Clock Mode)

TROUBLESHOOTING
The following did not help:
• Repaired Permissions & shut down/start.
• Started up with FFUC turned off.
• Started up with FFUC USB cable not plugged into MBP, then plugging its USB cable into computer.
• Reinstalled the latest driver.
• Re-Flashed the firmware with latest update
• Nuked Audio Midi preferences in Library & User Library.

This solved the problem:
• Reverted back to Previous Driver 1.65

Final Test:
Updated to Driver 1.66 again.
• Wrong sample rate returned on startup.

NOTE: from Driver Readme:
“New in Version 1.66
-In certain cases a system sample rate of 44.1 Hz could not be set at boot-time”

It seems like this latest driver is actually causing this issue for me. I have never had this issue before Driver 1.66. Weird.

Naturally, I can be interpreting this wrong, so any information will be appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: Latest Driver 1.66 causing wrong Sample Rate on startup

Did you try toggling the sample rate (switch to 48k then back to 44.1k) in FF USB settings with 1.66? This would rewrite the preference file.

Re: Latest Driver 1.66 causing wrong Sample Rate on startup

Yes, I did but it didn't stick. I'll try again & report back.

Thanks for the uber swift help!

Re: Latest Driver 1.66 causing wrong Sample Rate on startup

Tried it again. It doesn't stick: as soon as the computer/FFUC are shut down & started up again I get the wrong Sample Rate.

Any additional info you need to help sort it out?

Re: Latest Driver 1.66 causing wrong Sample Rate on startup

This fix applies only to UFX and UCX. Of course it might be that the fix broke something for BF and UC. On the other hand you did not write what your current clocking situation is. Clock set to 'Internal', and nothing connected digitally?

Re: Latest Driver 1.66 causing wrong Sample Rate on startup

Yes: Clock is set to 'Internal', & there is nothing connected digitally.

Thanks for the quick help. Much appreciated.

Re: Latest Driver 1.66 causing wrong Sample Rate on startup

So we tested and can not reproduce. Details:

- MacBook Pro, Mac OSX 10.6.8
- Fireface UFX, via USB, Firmware 352
- Sample rate set to 96 kHz
- Driver 1.63, 1.65 and 1.66
- no audio software active, Settings dialog open
- power off UFX, power on UFX

All three driver versions gave a sample rate of 96 kHz after power on. Tested multiple times.

- Same test with Mac Mini and Mac OSX 10.7.2
- Driver 1.66

power off then power on = 96 kHz.

Re: Latest Driver 1.66 causing wrong Sample Rate on startup

Thanks for the quick response & testing.

I also do not experience any problems when I power off the Fireface UC while the computer is left on.

The problem occurs when the computer is turned off.

Driver 1.66
When I power up my computer using Driver 1.66 I get the following settings:
• TotalMix shows 32.0k
• Fireface USB Settings show 44100 Hz
• Audio Midi shows 30000.0 Hz

It doesn’t matter if the Fireface is also turned off, or not.

I have tried it with TotalMix, Settings, Audio Midi open & closed, having the Fireface selected in Audio Midi or not, & every combination. The result is always the same.

NOTE: This has never occurred before Driver 1.66

Driver 1.65
When I power up my computer using Driver 1.65 I get the following settings:
• TotalMix shows 44.1k
• Fireface USB Settings show 44100 Hz
• Audio Midi shows 44100.0 Hz

Seems like the sample rate for the Fireface is set by Audio Midi on powering up the computer. Can you confirm if this is how the Fireface operates when the host computer has been turned off? The problem then is that Audio Midi is starting up at 30000.0 Hz.

NOTE:
Fireface UC
Driver 1.66
Firmware 115
Main Outputs Assigned to Analog 1/2

MacBook Pro (early 2008)
OS X 10.6.8
4GB RAM

Re: Latest Driver 1.66 causing wrong Sample Rate on startup

While we could not reproduce the error we think we understood it and improved the change in 1.66 so that it will work in any situation. Please try version 1.67:
