Topic: Babyface Volume during Boot

When I start up XP, the Babyface is always at a very loud volume setting and the Windows music blows my ears off. It doesn't seem to matter what settings I have saved or which snapshot I shutdown with, it always starts up SUPER loud. I can't be turning my monitors on and off constantly if I need to reboot. Can I change this setting somehow?

Edit: Just saw a related post... So the only way is to change the windows audio settings to not play on login? Really?

Re: Babyface Volume during Boot

Please be more careful in examining the problem. If the unit does not store the latest state on shutdown and/or does not load the previously stored state on boot - then say so. It should do so. If not then something prevents it from working as expected. Also name driver and firmware version.

Re: Babyface Volume during Boot

If you have Microsoft Wave file playing when the OS starts up then in Sounds Applet put in "No Sounds" and go through the list and have no sounds playing at any time. It is not good for audio interfaces to have the OS add sounds for anything when using the computer as a DAW. And make sure it does not play when the OS starts up. I find sounds from the OS very distracting for anything I do on a computer and it is something that does not have to play. And that Microsoft startup wave file always plays at full volume anyway, because the OS has not set anything as of yet, so do not have it play. It sure does not play on my computer.

If you want a DAW computer, then read the articles on the Internet that relate to making your computer a DAW computer. The sounds are not missed by me.

Re: Babyface Volume during Boot

Yeah, I had the same problem. Driver 1.019 and firmware 185. I assume it's because the Total Mix software does not load until AFTER the Windows login screen and the Babyface requires communication with Total Mix for adjusting volume, but I don't know. Like everyone suggested to me, I just set my Sound Scheme to "no sounds" and unchecked "Play Windows Startup Sound" in Control Panel -> Sound -> Sounds tab. This may be unrelated, but I also get a POP from my monitors when I first power up my laptop and the lights on the Babyface turn on, so I just keep my monitors off until I've properly logged in now anyway.

Re: Babyface Volume during Boot

Yes, it is the OS doing that and while the drivers may be loaded, the USB bus and TotalMixFX is one of the last things that are loaded up after the OS starts running. Just the way it is, and RME can do nothing about that, so it is Microsoft that is doing that.
And in XP it looks as if the OS is loaded and running and it is still loading up programs so Microsoft is making like the OS is loading up faster that what it really does. Wait until it is fully done loading drivers and software in the OS before turning speakers on if needed.

--The active speakers i use, are plugged into a different wall-plug than the power-supply of the PC, it cured any pop-sound, which was loud sometimes.--
