Topic: Fireface 800, SPDIF and OPTICAL (ADAT2) output

Hello Forum,

I am already using the SPDIF output of my FF800 and since i've run out of outputs, i thought that the most economic way to add another pair of analog outs, is by using a stereo DAC with an optical input and some sort of stereo analog output (these are inexpensive) and connect this to the ADAT2 port of my FF800.
The question is: What happens when i click the "SPDIF Out 'ADAT2'" option in Fireface settings? can i route whatever i want to this ADAT2 port or do i get the same signal that goes to the SPDIF out?
thnx!

Have a look at the block diagram. There is only one SPDIF output. ADAT signals are no longer available at that port.

OK, saw it in the Block diagram.
Is there some sort of external ADAT -to- SPDIF converter that i can use for this? I just need two extra outputs that's all.
thanks for the feedback.

Yes, the RME ADI-4 DD, but that would be more expensive than your stereo DAC... Consider an inexpensive external converter with ADAT port, which would give you 8 analog outputs.
