Topic: Can't sync slave to UFX through ADAT 1

Hi!  First post here!  I'm sure it's a common and simple question, but I can't seem to find the info I need in either the UFX manual or the slave unit's manual.  So here goes!

I'm trying to sync the ADAT outputs of an ART D/MPAII to the clock of my new Fireface UFX.  For some reason I can use the ART unit as master no problem, the UFX syncs almost instantly, but I really want to use the undoubtedly superior clock in the UFX as my master clock!

The converter on the ART unit is set to receive word clock via ADAT.  I get Lock on the UFX but not Sync, and both the ADAT1 status light on the UFX and the sync status light on the ART unit blink (obviously) signifying a lack of sync.

In the Fireface Settings window I have my Clock Source set to Internal and like I said, I'm getting Lock on ADAT1 but no Sync.

Thanks SOOOO much!  Love my Fireface UFX more than my mother!  (Little Mother's Day weekend humor ;-)

You have 2 optical cables between the units (Out>In and In>Out)? ART set to Optical input for clock? Sample rate in the UFX set to 48k or lower?

Re: Can't sync slave to UFX through ADAT 1

Thanks for the quick relpy Jeff!

I do not have two optical cables between the units sad

I was not aware this was necessary, I just assumed that if I could get clock and audio from the ART through a single ADAT cable that I could send clock TO the ART through a single ADAT cable and still get audio as well...  I'm guessing that isn't the case?

Otherwise all other settings are correct.  ART is set to receive clock through ADAT and the sample rate is 48k.

Now I'm wondering if I should get another optical cable or a BNC for wordclock...

So to sum up, I either need ADAT in both directions, or ADAT from the ART and a Wordclock connection?

Thanks!

PS:  I'm sure you can tell but this is my first time using digital ins/outs smile

Re: Can't sync slave to UFX through ADAT 1

ADAT is an optical connection, and light can only travel in one direction...
So yes, a second optical cable will do the trick.

That makes perfect sense, thank you so much!  Seems quite common sense now that I'm thinking about it haha!  RME rocks!

Thanks again Daniel and Jeff!
