Topic: RME Babyface compatible with USB 3.0 and hubs?

Hi,

I've got an Apple Macbook Pro with 2 USB 3.0 ports and I want to use 5 USB 2.0 devices : Cubase Dongle, iLok, Belkin USB mouse/keyboard switch, RME Babyface and aVirus TI Snow. Will the RME Babyface on a USB hub like this one?

Please let me know.
Thanks!

Re: RME Babyface compatible with USB 3.0 and hubs?

Hi,

Is the RME Babyface compatible with USB 3.0? I just ordered a new Apple Macbook.
Thank you!

Re: RME Babyface compatible with USB 3.0 and hubs?

Hubs should work depending on how the single devices behave. The RME USB driver reserves bandwidth for its use. Try to keep as little other devices on the same Macbook USB port as possible, though.

the only other devices I want to connect to the same USB port are the Cubase Dongle, iLok and Mouse.

Re: RME Babyface compatible with USB 3.0 and hubs?

Mostly depends on the drivers of the other devices and the quality of the hub. I can run both a Fireface UC and an USB harddrive at the same time, so bandwidth wise it should work, but that doesn't mean the other devices cannot interfere.

Re: RME Babyface compatible with USB 3.0 and hubs?

when i plug / unplug my usb sd /cf card reader, there was SOMETIMES a little lag, indeed (the sound though ufx has a little gap of silence)

i tried several port and then i found that if plug in the same (ufx) bus it CAN cause gap. i said CAN, and i said SOMETIMES.

the mac info can tell you which bus is where.

(of course, all that because i've chosen usb for the ufx, fw seems to me less convenient : can't unplug it like a barbarian :-))

Re: RME Babyface compatible with USB 3.0 and hubs?

finder : the very left apple menu (in shape of apple) / about this mac / more infos / system repport / usb

(roughly translated from french, yours should be a bit different, u know..)

it seems to be the same idea described page 92/93 of the ufx manual : 33.3 usb audio

maybe some mod could enlight this usb hub strategy.
