Topic: FF 400: no sound when system loads

Hi, a very little problem here, but is better to advise you about it.
The FF400 works very good, never a problem, it's my proud.
But when I start it before to load the system, the software load (at least the Settings & Mixer icons appears on the dock), but the card doesn't produce any sound.
If I reset the system anything goes well, but if I turn off the Mac and turn on again the problem come back.
FF400 wants to be turn on after the iMac.
This is my config: iMac 24" / Late 2006 / 2,16 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo / 3 GB / Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4
The card is on the fw 400 socket and the driver is updated to the last version: 3.09 & 1.71 firmware.
Anyway I've noticed this problem also when I bought it (December 2011).
I can live and work also with this little problem, but so you know it.

Re: FF 400: no sound when system loads

Thanks for the report, but this is not a known issue. Maybe you could be a little more specific about the nature of the problem...

Re: FF 400: no sound when system loads

Ok, re-try.

Condition A:

A1. Start the iMac for first
A2. Start the FF400 for second

Everything works fine.

===

Condition B:

B1. Start the FF400 for first
B2. Start the iMac for second

No sound, also if the icons in the dock appears as normal.

So, when the B condition happens, the only solution to have back the sound is to reset (or re-start or re-load) the Mac OS again.

Hope this is more specific.

Re: FF 400: no sound when system loads

Not really... What does "no sound" refer to...? No sound where? Which software are you using? What hapens when you play something, does the sofware behave as normal= Have you checked the Audio/Midi settings configuration? Etc. etc....
As I said, this is not a common issue, so likely to be in your individual setup.

In condition B - can you start the Settings dialog and TotalMix? If yes, are levels from the analog inputs shown in TM (noise in channels 1 to 8)?

Re: FF 400: no sound when system loads

Hi Matthias, I've tried other three times to re-create that condition, but it doesn't. So I think that it could happens random (but almost 30 years as informatic I don't believe to the casuality), or something that create that condition (an external hard disk plugged in or not, the Firewire connection, dunno...).
I must to deliver a job within next Sunday, so I'll give it my attention next week and I'll try the FF400 on my wife's MacBook too.
Thank you both for the supporting (ever).

Re: FF 400: no sound when system loads

Hi,
after all this time it happens! Today I've inserted the alimentation cable inside the FF, turn on the multiple adapter and turn on the iMac.

Nothing play. ed:

I tried many audio file with Quicklook and after the multicolor ball it give an error, iTunes load the files but doesn't starts, the same Quicktime.

These are screen grab of the Midi Setup:

And the grabs of the FF Mixer and Settings windows:

I can raise high and low the volume sliders (both with keyboard and mouse), but not with the knob on the unit.

Re: FF 400: no sound when system loads

In the Settings app, your firmware version shows v0.00, this could indicate a FireWire problem. Please change the cable, disconnect other FW devices, and see if you can still trigger the problem.

Re: FF 400: no sound when system loads

Didn't you notice the strange clocking in the Settings dialog? Set the unit to Clock Mode Master, maybe the effect is gone then. You should remove the linking (deselect the 4 faders) in TotalMix as well, this makes no sense and might be part of the problem as well.

Re: FF 400: no sound when system loads

Thanks for reply Matthias,
I had set to Master Mode (sorry I'm in the DAW world only from a couple of years and I have the RME only from the last December).
Just a question, if I deselect the AN1/2 faders I can raise both the volumem (L/R) with the F11/F12 keys, but how can I raise both the volumes of the headphones if I do it just only with mouse?

Jeff thank you too, this should be the third cable changed... I'll try to re-create the problem, the fact is that I just to understand how is creable.
