Topic: Live Mix and Recording with Fireface UCX

I am planning to mix a small live gig with the UCX and a laptop. I will definitely use all 18 channels (built in + SPDIF + ADAT) for mixing together with the onboard compressors, EQs and reverb/delay.

Furthermore I am planning to record all channels with Cubase.

Q1: Do you think it is possible to mix and record all 18 channels at the same time?
Q2: From your experience would you prefer Firewire or USB connection for that task?

Thanks for your advice

Since no one seems to have made an experience in this way, I will post my results, problems, successes etc. after the project.

i'm doing that every week with Firewire connectivity, and it has always been a success.

Re: Live Mix and Recording with Fireface UCX

Since I promised to give a report, now here it is:

I mixed a live rock band using all channels but the first MicPre in the UCX (that was kind of a backup channel) and it worked out quite well.
Internal FX were enough to handle the situation. The laptop was connected through Firewire and everything worked out fine.
Recording all channels with Reaper at the same time was no problem at all.

The UCX was connected with an ADAT 8x Preamp and they both syncronized through the lightpipe cable. I expected sync-difficulties in plugging my Pod X3 in the SPDIF additionally. The POD doesn't accept external clocking, but no problem occurred. Clear signal live and on "tape".

I am quite satisfied with the results, only the small monitor of the laptop (15") was a bit of a hassle when controlling/altering settings.
