Topic: SOS! - 1394 driver or firewire chip replacement?

XP sp3 , fireface 400 from 2007

Following a corrupt system crash, I have suffered hardware failure of prometheus proportions. Having wasted three weeks on this, blaming every other peripheral, I have installed new motherboard, processor.

And Having rebooted with brand new Windows installation:

Houston has a Problem: Red light on Host : Sound card is enabled but can not start. Device Manager shows nothing is connected to the 1394 Controller.

I think I have two options.

1. To find a better 1394 device driver for my Startech Card, however it still works well for other devices.

2. Send FF to you for repair to fit a new firewire chip.

I'd be grateful if you'd let me know the best course of action!

Re: SOS! - 1394 driver or firewire chip replacement?

have you done any swap testing to confirm the RME card has the fault?, do you not have a friend with PC+firewire port you can test it on?

Re: SOS! - 1394 driver or firewire chip replacement?

Is the FF's HOST LED on or off? Have you tried this with the external power supply?
Otherwise, what he said...

I had same issue until I changed motherboard firewire driver to legacy. Then PC founds the soundcard.

Make sure you did not install any FireWire driver coming with that card, like Unibrain, they are not compatible to the FF.
