Topic: FF800 & Laptop Connections

Going to be on the road a bit soon. Was originally intending to take an old Audio 8 DJ card but it's a pain because all the inputs are phono because it's really for a DJ setup. When I checked out the laptop tonight (It's a PC running Windows 7) I can see an S400 port. Can I run a 6 > 4 pin firewire cable into this from the Fireface? What kind of loss in speed/latency will there be? Will this work? Cheers all

Re: FF800 & Laptop Connections

You can use this connection without any problems in principle (if the FW chipset behind it works ok). "Speed" is not an issue, neither is latency.

Re: FF800 & Laptop Connections

Thanks for that. As it happens I just copped a 2011 Macbook from work today so I'm giving that a go tonight instead. Now I can see I can connect up via FW800 which is great but I can see it also has the thunderbolt. So I'm wondering is it better to stick with the 800 connection or shell out for the thunderbolt/firewire adapter. Which is more stable/quicker/less latency etc..*in practice* rather than in theory ;-) ?
Many thanks

Re: FF800 & Laptop Connections

No difference, it's still FW even if you use the TB adapter.
