Topic: Any chance of an 8-mic pre stand-alone recorder in the pipes?

I've been looking at the available 8 mic input devices that ca be used for simple remote tracking.
I've been using rock solid RME as the core of my studio rig for years and was just wondering if something along the lines of the Fireface 800 or UFX might be in the works?

Also to add a question- Where can I go to get info to better understand the DURec multi-track file format? (Tried the UFX manual but didn't find details there.
