Topic: SONAR and USB ASIO with FW800 UFX gets popping and clicking

I have updated the latest firmware and drivers. I am using SONAR X1 and X2. The problem is pretty persistant.

I recently updated my machine:
ASUS Sabertooth 990 FX
amd fx-8150 8 core processor am3+
16G Corsair 1066 DDR3
PNY GTX670 2go gddr5
Samsung 750G SATA drives
WD 200G
Seagate 160G
Seagate 400G
RME FireFace 800 UFX - USB drivers
SONY DVD+-R/RW
LG BR+HD Multi ROM
SONAR Producer 8.5+, X1, X2 + hotfixes
Vegas 11
SF 10
CD architect
DVD Architect
Win7 64 Ultimate + auto updates


The Sabertooth has no fireface ports so I have gone to USB mode. The ASIO Driver is not performing very well. I get pops and clicks at a 2048 buffer and smaller buffers work the same.

bit and Sample rate -16/44.1

Are we not supposed to use ASIO with the USB side of this unit? The firewire ASIO perfromance was rock solid. USB isn't so...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Since you write that the Sabertooth offers no Firewire I assume that you used the UFX on another setup before?! So FW ASIO performance was rock solid on that *other* setup.

What does DPC Latency Checker say?

between 172 and 262 ar the current and absolute numbers.

Yes, but you used Firewire on a different hardware setup, right?! (You wrote that the Sabertooth offer no FW.) So it's not so much about Firewire being rock solid, but more about your other hardware setup being rock solid. Does it happen with the demo project that come with Sonar, so that I can check here?

I had to reinstall SONAR X2 and the X2a update yesterday. When profiling the UFX, SONAR used the ASIO drivers. I think something may have been profiled incorrectly prior to the reinstall. I am using 256 size buffers and no artifacts or dropouts.

Don't know what happened, but it is looking better after the reinstall.

Thanks for the replies and sorry for the trouble. RME drivers have been so rock solid that it surprised me when they weren't. I have used a Fireface for many years and never had an issue other than the power supply repair. The UFX is a nice step up and I immensely enjoy having such a great tool as part of my studio.
