Topic: MIX EQ/compressor - monitor cable question

Greetings!

My questions:

1.Is there a way to apply EQ/compressors to my mix? I can't do that on my software channels in Totalmix, only input and output. If i route them to the outputs, then I can't monitor them, because you can only hear 1 stereo output channel via main.

2.What is the best way to mix? Routing the DAW channels to all software Totalmix channels, or mix them to 1 software channel? I read in the manual that 30 channels are supported but I see only 18 (analog+ADAT etc), why?

3.What does AS1/2 mean?

4.What's the best way to monitor the output? Connect analog TRS to my physical mixer? SDPIF and convert to RCA? Is there a special setting I have to enable to hear via SDPIF/RCA?

Too may questions I know :-). Many, many thanks!

What interface on which system?

I think you should search youtube for totalmix videos. they will explain loopback which means you can hear your mix with effects etc.

AS 1/2 is either ADAT in(s) or out(s) 1 & 2,

or SPDIF in(s) or out(s).

i.e. AdatSpdif (AS) = Adat 1/2 (= A 1/2)  OR  Spdif L/R (= S 1/2)

You can select for the optical in/out to be either ADAT or SPDIF in Fireface Settings, using the "Optical" drop-down list.

Are you talking about using the UCX effects specifically, or any effects?  Many use outboard gear, or (like me) use DAW plugins for mixing. If you want to use the UCX effects, look up "loopback" in the manual.

" If i route them to the outputs, then I can't monitor them, because you can only hear 1 stereo output channel via main" - I have no idea what you mean here, but maybe look up the "cue" function as it may be helpful.

Unless you are using outboard gear to mix, I would recommend just mixing in your DAW and routing the stereo signal to you monitors for simplicity.

I don't see where the manual says there are 30 channels.  Are you sure you aren't looking at the UFX manual?

Connect to your mixer or directly to your monitors using TRS or XLR outputs. RCA is only for digital signals, so I would not use unless you have a better DA converter than your UCX

Re: MIX EQ/compressor - monitor cable question

What DAW are you using?

Why can't you EQ/compress in your DAW?

" If i route them to the outputs, then I can't monitor them, because you can only hear 1 stereo output channel via main"

I mean that I can hear only 1 stereo output and not a mix of them. So I can't mix with EQ.

However I lately found out that vst effects can substitute DSP effects with no difference. Can you confirm this? Thanks!
