Topic: Babyface and headphones amp

hello,

just got a new Babyface and i'm really happy with it but... i would like to have much volume with my Akg K702 so i'm looking to buy an external headphone amp.
Well, my questions is: is it correct to connect Babyface's headphone out to an external amp (like Pro-Ject HEAD BOX 2) using a 1/4 TRS to RCA cable?
I know this has been discussed a lot but i can't really find this specific answer

thx in advance

Re: Babyface and headphones amp

AKG K702 isn't particularly high impedance can (I have K701, which is essentially the same), maybe around 50 or 80 ohm, I don't hink you need an external headphone amp.

Re: Babyface and headphones amp

i can live even with the actual volume but it happen, when i'm working in some specific situation, that i need to boost the volume to better listen some low level stuff, i don't have any problem when i'm listening to mastered music.

Anyway, thx for your reply but it not answer my question

i have the AKG K701 and I sought not only more volume, but just better overall sound from the Babyface headphone jack.  so i bought this

and a custom made short 1/4 TRS male to 1/8" TRS male cable from Blue Jean Cables

it's a night and day improvement IMHO

The impedance rating alone of the AKG K and Q series is not truly indicative of their power requirements and responsiveness, and the 30 ohm output rating of the Babyface headphone jack confounds many headphone nerds.   This is RME's forum however, so we shouldn't go too far into this.   Let's just say that not everyone agrees what the correct output impedance for a headphone jack is.

thx for the suggestion, really appreciate

Re: Babyface and headphones amp

The k701, k612, k712, and k702s all use the same capsule, the DKK45, so essentially they should have the same impedance and other performance specs. The impedance is 62 ohms. I've read that 50 is the official cutoff for "low impedance" headphones. I am also curious as to whether the Babyface Pro will drive the cans adequately with relatively flat sound adequate for monitoring and mixing.
