Topic: Searching for a USB bus powered device to work with ADI-2.

I apologies for discussing other interfaces.
I feel very guilty about it. (:

I am thinking about building a small stereo recording system based around ASUS EEE.
Unfortunately the EEE doesn't have a fire wire port so I need a nice USB "bus powered if possible" device with spdif in and out that works well with ADI-2.
Is anybody using a similar setup with ADI-2?
Thanks

Not tested it but how about this?

Re: Searching for a USB bus powered device to work with ADI-2.

From Transit manual...

Operating Mode
In this drop down menu you can select how the Transit USB sends and/or receives audio. The
following options are available:
? 2-In/2-Out, 16-bit, 8000 ? 48000 Hz ? 2-In/2-Out, 24-bit, 8000 ? 48000 Hz
? 2-In/0-Out, 24-bit, 88200 ? 96000 Hz ? 0-In/2-Out, 24-bit, 88200 ? 96000 Hz
? Dolby Digital / DTS pass-through, 16-bit, 48000 Hz
Note: Due to USB 1.1 bandwidth limitations and hardware constraints, sampling
rates above 48000 Hz do not support full duplex (i.e., simultaneous input and
output) mode.

Re: Searching for a USB bus powered device to work with ADI-2.

I was searching the web as well in order to find an SPDIF I/O interface for the ADI-2.
This one might work:  http://de.store.creative.com/sound-blas … 19829.aspx
It is supposed to make 24bit/96kS/s simultaneously via a USB 2.0 connection. It's nice that it has optical I/O, so ground-loops should not be an issue. I hope however the ADI-2 is able to remove most of the jitter coming from the synchronous (I'm guessing it is synchronous) USB 2.0 connection.
I will keep you posted once I have tried this combination.

Mathias

How about a Babyface? ;-)

Re: Searching for a USB bus powered device to work with ADI-2.

The Babyface would by far be the superior solution because it uses an asynchronous USB connection (way less jitter) and reliable drivers.

I was as well considering the M-Audio "Transit" as a low cost USB / SPDIF Interface for occasions when I do not want to rip out my Fireface UC, but I need full duplex at 96kS/s. This turned the "Transit" down. Also I read very nasty things about the software driver of the "Transit".

When doing more serious stuff, I use the SPDIF I/O of my Fireface UC.

Re: Searching for a USB bus powered device to work with ADI-2.

Follow-Up "Creative Soundblaster X-Fi HD USB" as USB2.0 - SPDIF interface:

Looks rather like the Creative chip CA0189 does asynchronous USB2.0 transfer (opposed to my guess that it's synchronous).
In the analog spectrum USB --> D/A no considerable Jitter was visible.
This is backed by the USB Description Dump (as far as I do understand USB):
   Transfer Type:           Isochronous-Transfer
   Synchronization Type:    Asynchronous
   Usage Type:              Data
The ADI-2 driven by Toslink was very clean as well.
--> The Creative Soundblaster X-Fi HD is a very clean and cheap USB2.0 <-> SPDIF converter.
... and the analog D/A measurements (AP) were surprisingly clean... I did not have a closer look into the A/D side yet.
