Topic: Nightmare of a card

I downloaded the above, and have had no joy at all. (2K 211.zip)  They aren't recognised properly in  VST / Win XP 32bit, and the names are scrambled and doubled up..

This is a nightmare of a card..  I shall install my Echo Laylas and 3g Laylas and consider the DIGI9636/52 (original) a total waste of time and money..  I have been trying for two days now and have still had no joy.

Echo drivers are so easy to install, compared to Hammerfall.  Their products have sensible names, instead of stupid and cryptic numbers ,(and really stupid 'updates' called the same thing.. (Dear God, it's not difficult)  and it's very easy to find support and to find drivers for them from Echo, rather than going to old redundant web-sites.

This has totally put me off buying any RME products ever again, and if I'd known how impossible it was going to be, I wouldn't have bothered buying a DIGI9636/52  in the first place..

Re: Nightmare of a card

I've done that endlessly Garry.  I have followed the instructions on the help and read-me files ten or more times, and done exactly what you suggest, to the point of giving up..

I have one XP machine running multiple Soundscape Mixtreme 192's, and another running Layla 20 bit cards, and yet another running 3 x new Layla G3's. I have also been working with computers since the Atari ST, so I think your comment somewhat unwarranted.

Re: Nightmare of a card

I have also cleaned the registry between every attempted install, performed general clean-up, and searched for any relevant RME files everywhere, and deleted them..(and then cleaned the registry yet again)
Does anyone know what else I could do that might allow me to install the card?

What exactly does "VST" refer to and how exactly are the channels shown? How are they "scrambled"? What you describe is not at all a known issue, so maybe you could at least provide more details.

What "updates" would you be referring to?

Not to criticize you (and not that it was a problem), but why did you purchase this card, which is well over ten years old and has been out of production for almost as long...

Do you simply wish to rant and complain or would you like some actual help with the problem (which I can assure you is not one of the card...)? The choice is yours.

Re: Nightmare of a card

To answer your last question forst, yes, I would appreciate some assistance..

1) Cubase VST and also Nuendo.
2) The names are scrambled. eg. 11.2Adat.1;followed by;  12.2 adat 1; etc.
3) HDSP update of the original card (or possibly another upgraded iteration of it)
4) I bought the card because I have XP PCI based computers and think it an OK platform for my needs. (It is with other cards like multiple Mixreme 192's and Layla 3g's. etc. as well as older Laylas.)
I have 3 x Soundscape Adat to t-dif interfaces and I need to interface them to a Tascam 3 x t-dif desk. I imagined that it would be simple to interface a lightpipe card...

Is there anything else I can do, except format the C;\drive re-install XP on a clean machine, and try yet again?

Could you provide a screenshot? While this does not seem to be an exact representation of what should be shown, it does make sense to a degree - there are three ADAT ports, all of which have 8 channels, so they have to be numbered 1 thru 8 of ports 1 thru 3 in some way...

Other than that, will Nuendo and Cubase play back signals through the card? If not, what happens?

3) HDSP update of the original card (or possibly another upgraded iteration of it)

There is no such thing as an "HDSP update" for this card. Everything that says HDSP is for HDSP cards only, and the 9636/52 is not such a card, it is of an earlier generation (no internal mixer, no MIDI).

It certainly is. Still, an HDSP 9652 would have been a more up-to-date choice, also suitable for 64-bit operating systems

Please describe exactly what you did and what happened.

Neither of these steps is necessary, but without knowing exactly where the installation or operation seems to fail, it is very hard to offer guidance.

Help us help you...
