Topic: Hot Swap Digiface and 2X HDSP PCI Cards?

Hi all...

I'm going to have two external PC's with HDSP PCI cards sharing a single Digiface (not at the sale time!), and I was wondering if I booted each PC with the Digiface attached, can I then swap the Digiface between the two computers without rebooting etc?

The HDSP PCI/Digiface will be slaved to a Digi 24bit ADAT Bridge so it won't be the master clock.

Thanks...

Re: Hot Swap Digiface and 2X HDSP PCI Cards?

I'd recommend engaging "Disconnect Mode" from the RME Control Panel for any hot-swapping of the breakout box.  The card should go to "Disconnected" state, and then pull the breakout's plug and re-connect it to the other PC.

The other PC should auto-detect the box, but it is also a good idea to have that PC's RME Card in "Disconnect Mode" when plugging in the box, and then un-check "Disconnect Mode" to get the firmware to load and the device to "Connect" on demand.

There is always a risk of damage when hot-swapping powered devices - but you *should* be OK.
