Topic: MADIface USB 128 channel mix mode

Very interested by the 128 mix mode and just wanted to clarify something.
Please correct me if I am wrong but this is how I think it works in 128 mix mode:
Both Madi inputs (128 channels) and 64 playback channels are available as inputs in TotalMix, and these can be routed/mixed
to both madi outputs (128 channels).
Only 64 channels of the inputs can be sent to be recorded - Here is my question - Do the 64 channels sent to be recorded all have to come from just one of the Madi inputs, or can you route 64 channels to be recorded from a combination of inputs from the two Madi inputs?
Hope that makes sense - either way it is a very useful feature.
Many thanks

Adam

Re: MADIface USB 128 channel mix mode

From the manual:

"Input defines the currently used main input, Optical or Coaxial. AutoSelect activates an auto-
matic  input  selection,  dependent  on  the  currently  connected  input.  Using  both  inputs  at  the same time, AutoSelect puts the device into Seamless Redundancy mode. The MADIface USB will switch to the other input in real-time if the current one fails. The currently used input for recording is shown below as Current MADI Input. "

Thank you.

I think !?

Record is from one of both inputs. To work around that you could use the Loopback feature, which will be quite confusing and cumbersome for so many channels.

Re: MADIface USB 128 channel mix mode

Hello - Finally I have managed to buy a Madiface USB - Very nice thank you
When I select 128 mix mode I see the number of outputs in Total Mix increase to 128 as expected, however the physical inputs remain at 64 ( plus the 64 computer playback inputs).
I was expecting there to be 128 physical inputs available in Total Mix - 64 from the optical input and 64 from the coaxial input.
Am I missing something?
I currently have no Madi inputs - do I need them to enable this feature.
Any help would be appreciated.

Of course you need an input signal.

Re: MADIface USB 128 channel mix mode

Thank you for your reply.
So when the Madiface sees a Madi source at both the optical and the coaxial inputs at the same time then the physical inputs will automatically increase from 64 to 128 in Total Mix  - is that correct?
Sorry for not understanding but the outputs increase to 128 when selecting 128 mix mode - I assumed the inputs would increase in Total Mix as well.
I am away from a Madi source at the moment and so cannot test for myself.
Many thanks

That would make no sense, just cause confusion. Why you need inputs that are not available at all?

Re: MADIface USB 128 channel mix mode

Thank you for your reply MC, but I do not understand what you are trying to say - sorry!

My understanding of the 128 mix mode is that you can connect two Madi streams to the Madiface usb - one via the optical input and one via the coaxial input.
These 128 inputs are then available as physical sources in Total Mix.
You can then use these inputs to route to the two Madi outputs- one via the optical output and one via the coaxial output.
If I have misunderstood this concept then I apologise.

If this is correct then my question was -why can I not see all of the 128 physical sources in Total Mix in the Matrix View ?

The RME website states:
"In 128 Channel Mix mode record and playback is still limited to 64 channels, with the current input selected in the Settings dialog. But the other input is also available through TotalMix, and the output signal is not mirrored, but separated, with TotalMix having 128 output channels."

I cannot seem to see both inputs in Total Mix in the Matrix View and was wondering what I was doing wrong.
I hope that explains my question more clearly.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
Adam

Re: MADIface USB 128 channel mix mode

You will see 128 inputs if and when you connect two MADI signals to the inputs. Without an input connection, there is no point in presenting you 128 empty input channels.

Many Thanks Daniel
That answers my question.
