Topic: Octamic XTC with noise and crackling: hw or sw problem ?

in standalone mode, my octamic XTC shows a constant Signal at around -40dB on channel 5 and a bit less on channel 2.
Phantom power is off, the inputs are not wired, and the gain is minimal.
This happens, when the XTC is warm after 2-3 min.
All other channels does not show any signal.
If a microphone is used with proper gain, noise and crackling shows up in the Audio material.

Is this a Hardware Problem or did I missed a correct setup.

Hi UDR
I have a bad message for you. Your Octamic has very probably the same defect as mine had.
I just brought back my Octamic XTC last Friday to the sales department in Switzerland.
Reason: After 30 minutes a loud crackling noise within channel 3.
Because I use my units for professional recordings I always run new tools for 3 days non-stop.
I got the noise at day two...
BTW: I also had the same fault with my UFX... and after the first repair once more...
Seems to be a part within the input cirquit which always makes this noisy fault.

Sorry for the bad message. Nevertheless I still prefer RME even if it is the third time now I have a defect.
So I hope and pray that the ordered MadiFace XT will run as it should from the very beginning - also after the 3day-run.

Re: Octamic XTC with noise and crackling: hw or sw problem ?

Beat,

thanks für the hint.

After checking almost every setup and routing configuration I was already absolutely shure, that this is a HW-Problem.
So I brought it back to the German shop where I bought it.

They managed within 1 day (!) together with Synthax a replacement.
I must really compliment both of them about this excellent and fast support.

Now I'm getting some mileage on the XTC as you suggested in the hope, that nothing more shows up.
So far, the replaced XTC shows the known trustworthy RME quality, I'm used to.
Let's see, if it passes your mentioned 2 days.
